@ CT - I never knew you could wadmerge. I'll have to look into that.
@ Discostu - Mainly the keep, but if you wish to have the outer wall included to confine the player, that'd be a nice touch.

OH god.
One of The Mighty Atom's Maps has been compiling now for almost 11 hours.
On a dual core 3.2Ghz...
I woke up this morning and almost cried when it was only 75% done.

What have you done to sp_deadeye10??

I don't really think it was working for the full 11 hours though. My computer probably hibernated overnight.

tet just do fast vis seriously, there is no reason to full vis an abandoned map that won't have any gameplay imo...

just in-case you forgot here are some possible optimization tips to help:
-scale up textures to 2.00 or more in areas it won't be noticed
-make any crazy brushwork--this includes anything cylindrical--func_illusionary or put a clip brush through it.
-run fast vis :badass:

even if it has it's sp only... it is stoopidly ridiculous to wait over 10 hours for a map to compile, i don't care what's in it. and if he ever has to edit for any reason he'll have to wait another 10+ hours to edit.

I would NEVER wait that long for a map to compile for, especially for a coop project. I would disqualify it outright, spit it back to the author to edit, or edit it myself, but man, you are asking a lot of someone to expect them to compile that shit.

There's no need to edit. I played thru the series of 12. The only one i have to edit is the last one for the outro sequence. Hopefully that's the last compile for that map, but if it isn't, now i know how much time i need to allot to compile it.

Remember captain, these are disposed maps for a reason.
And the only reason i need to recompile is explicit instructions from Atom to wadinclude.

Well compo is over.
I'm sure The mod wont be finished for a while either seeing as the NEW compo started and it's a 2 month deadline.
Just got back from a vacation and i have a book to finish.
Fantastic book, btw.

After that i'm gonna work on my compo entry and just do the gruntwork behind castle disposed.

Again, so much going on :(

Freedom - Daniel Suarez.
It's the sequel to Daemon.

Essentially, the programmer from a MMORPG dies of bran cancer and thru that unleashes a daemon that reads all the news RSS feeds and takes actions against the world economy. It has been taking out asshole businessmen "Boondock Saints" style.

First book was how it happened.
Second book is what happens after the global economy is controlled by a computer program.

I'm about 60% done with it... been reading for about 8 hours straight today. I plan on finishing tonight.

I highly recommend both novels. The technology included in them is both amazing and far-fetched, but just seeing what could happen with technology and video games is incredible.

And i finished the book.
Took about 12 hours on and off - 409 pages, including all the forewords and notes on author and blah blah.

I have two discarded maps that use puzzle.wad and puzzletextures.wad. If anyone knows who made those WAD files, please let me know. If you, reader, made one of them, can I upload my map and your textures and have them included in Castle Disposed?

Good to see you're still working on this, but i think you should'nt accept new maps for Castle Disposed, otherwise you just keep adding to it and the mod never gets finished. You should save new submissions for a sequel (Castle Disposed 2) or a mod update or something.

That's a novel idea Atom.
So i'm going to work out all the fine details now.
Turns out since there's only about 6 maps submitted i'm not going to need a larger castle..
I'm just going to spread out the castle i have already.
Maybe retexture it as well because the vanilla HL ones are freaking bland.

Castle Disposed is nearing completion!

I got a new way of managing the multiple level changes.
It's very smooth now :)
@ Captain Terror:
YES!
It's just a fantastic view on what could possibly happen to our life if a program takes over the economy.
It takes ideas from MMO's but it's not like.. orientated towards the MMO players.

Atom's maps are proving difficult to work with, but it's only due to lack of optimization.
One map took me around 6 hours to compile... Func walling all the cylinders and putting a few hint brushes here and there, took that down to 1 minute 45 seconds.
Probably plays better too.
I really overlooked that in every map when i compiled the first time, but i cant let bad optimized maps thru =].
PLus some textures seem to be missing in game vs in hammer, even though i WAD included.
I'm working on that one too.

So after deadeye (TMA's Maps) i need to include skals' maps and i should be good to go (mapping wise)

:) I spent about 5-10 min in each map trying to optimize. Func walling and placing hints and ect... probably saved me days worth of compiling:) I can say I did enjoy playing thru the maps! and the wad is wadincluded as you wished. I'm awaiting feedback from a few other people.... members that sent maps that I forgot about(whoops)
and until then, what's the best way to create a
steam mod. I forgot:p

Mods made for WON HL work in Steam HL just fine, with the exception of main menu art like the menu background, console backgrond and that kind of stuff.

1-Implement Srry's maps,
2-Recompile one of Atoms done
3-Do finishing touches and lighting tweaks on Main castle
4-Make mod structure

Hey, where's all the maps I sent you? I haven't even played it yet (awaiting inclusion of tetsuowad.wad), but just looking through the maps in BSPViewer, there's only one of them in there... you left out the big outdoor one? That was like, the best one... and practically complete. :\

long story short, it would have taken too long to optimize and I couldn't delay CD any further.
I did like that map, but everyone who submitted maps gave me more than what i put in the level.
Atom got lucky because all his were working already.

That outdoor level, the dam, was a complete mess.
Understandably disposed of, but maybe if we do another one of these i can take some real time and fix it up.
