I've got sketches and ideas for a map that I would like to make (or have made/help make/etc), but I am pretty terrible with hammer editor (I've tried and I've gotten a good amount done actually--at least the basic rooms and what not of the map done, but with compiling and the other detailed parts of the program, it just drives me nuts). If anyone's interested in this project, lemme know (either in the thread or PM me).

You should probably post some screen shots and sketches.

ok

That's the overview sketch.

Legend:

Outlined in GREEN: "underground"

-----> : point in the direction of the ramp/stairwell moving DOWNWARD (ie. \ would be -->)

The bolded black line and the one with the white squares in it in the upper bombsite sketch are for ledges (ie. de_dust2 catwalk ledges along the ground)

Rectangle with a line through it at Middle is a window (of some sorts)

I think that's about it.

that's the top bombsite (top in reference to the overview sketch). that's what i have done in hammer editor aside from the general layout of the map. I'm obviously thinking an aztec-themed map, but I'm not dead set on it at all.

the 2 black parts along the wall on the right sides is where doors would go from the bombsite that I hadn't made yet

It's hard to be inspired to make someone else's map.

...unless you pay good money.

More so if you don't map for the game/mod the map is for.

I've never mapped for anything but halflife. The aztec theme is a good idea though and I was actually thinking of making one before but never got around to mapping for cz.

kmc, you could learn to map here instead of having someone else (potentialy) ruin your idea. The Half-life tutorials have a couple CS tuts in them, plus all the general stuff. Compiling is easy, and you'll learn the interface quickly.

To compile I just hit f9 and viola!

I'd say i'd help. But i have too much on my plate right now. I've put all my projects on hold til i get a break from classes.

I think I'm gonna take another crack at it this weekend. I lost a lot of motivation trying to learn hammer editor, but hopefully with the help of tutorials I can just trudge through it and produce a decent map.

Well just check the tutorials and make good use of the search bar

layout is pretty good. I have some knowledge in mapping, but making a GOOD layout is difficult for me. If U want I can try to make this, but making custom textures instead of aztec would be much better...

Yeah, viola and you're immediately hit in the face with an error message, at least the first time you ever try to run a map. How many people have actually got all their settings right on the first go? It took me weeks to figure it out, I almost gave up. Please don't.

I never get any errors unless there is an error in my map which I than fix. Its really pretty simple to set up.

I made the basic outline of the map (all the rooms, walls, etc). I just need to get in game and resize it the way I want along with putting boxes/lights/make it pretty/etc. That being said...I'm ready and willing to hand this off to someone else because I'm not knowledgeable at all in mapping, so fine-tuning the map myself is going to be a disaster (imo). Here are a few screen shots:

note: All textures were used just as generic placeholder textures. This is obviously not the final texture pattern I plan to use. Also, no I am not set on the name de_titan. It was just a name someone ran by me so I was like eh whatever I'll use it for now--it's gotta be called something, right?

Yeah I made the map way too big, but the screen shots in the post above(which are fixed now)show about how big I'm looking to make the map look in-game.
