What screencasting software is that?

My guess would be that it's from trying to make a Portal map in an EP1 engine configuration? Set the engine version to Orange Box and select the automatic Portal configuration and see what happens.

I select the engine version you stated, but where do I find the automatic Portal config? I dont see that in the SDK Launcher window

EDIT 1: Well, I "added" a game config under that orange box engine, reset game configs, and so far Hammer opens normal views. I'm gonna make a scrap map and see what happens.

Edit 2: Rabid, you are a sanity saver. My lil trick worked, although item_suit has that checkered texture to iy, I guess there is no suit in portal.

Nope, no suit. You have no real 'health', and only one weapon, so there's no point in having one.

Hm. Portal should already be a game in your Orange Box SDK.

Are you running Steam in offline mode or something?

If you're feeling adventurous you should "Refresh SDK Content" and then "Reset Game Configs" in the SDK. Be warned that it wipes any custom configs you have set up so you may want to make a backup of the config text file first. But portal is a game in the default game config list, you should not have to define it yourself. Hammer 4 tends to be a bit anal when it comes to custom configs so you should try to use the default ones if at all possible.

Penguin, I had done that like 3x, and for some weird reason it wasnt there - I wonder if it's because I had bought portal WAY after I already had teh Source SDK.
