I've come up with a way to entertain you, the often very intelligent community of TWHL.

The goal is to give me the answer. The first one to post the answer in this thread is the winner.

I may make more of these if they prove popular, but this first one is just quite small and not too tricky.

Good luck.

Round 3 has begun 25th Feb 2012

Same rules apply - If you find yourself logged in as someone else during the course of your investigations, please don't remove things or post as that user. Don't ruin the fun for everyone else!
First one to PM me, Archie, the answer wins.
The answer is a two-word name."

I already figured it out.
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 19:51:07 UTC Post #278956
Excellent.

By the way, this was done without first asking the mods - so I'll point out now that I did have to create new accounts. For a good purpose, though.
If at any point during the investigation you find yourself logged in to any of these accounts (which you may) please don't ruin it for everyone. Do not delete any of the person's bio information or anything else for that matter.
Do not post while logged in as anyone but yourself.
Do not shout while logged in as anyone but yourself.

I don't get it. Is this a Notpron-like riddle?
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 20:15:38 UTC Post #278962
Oh wait, I got it. Huntey, disregard the email I sent to your domain :P
Don't wanna spoil it for others so I'll just say the answer ends with G.

Also Huntey keep a record of stuff you add to the site so that we can delete it once it's over. Don't wanna pollute the site with rubbish data :)

Neat idea, I like it.
Penguinboy PenguinboyHaha, I died again!

haha. Well done, Pengy.

And don't worry - I have a plan with all the "characters" and their info contained in it. I'll keep them around for a wee while longer so that I can get more interesting puzzles set up.

I can't wait to find out what the heck is going on here. Or rather, read what others have found out about this mysterious riddle for which I can't even figure out what's the point.

The answer is 42. But then what is the question?

...no.

Look at Billybop, for example. He got it right away

edit:

TJB is correct, but not in regard to this puzzle. Make no mistake, there is a puzzle to be solved here.

I have the feeling I have progressed one step closer to something. But then I still don't know what to do with that step.
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 20:48:21 UTC Post #278971
I'm stuck... shit...
Do you have to download anything to solve this or is it all right there in front of you?
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 20:49:59 UTC Post #278972
In this first puzzle, it's all available to you on TWHL with nothing downloaded.

I had it right in front of my face the whole time and I didn't notice. The path was way shorter than I expected.

I can confirm Penguinboy's hint is accurate.

Haha, I got after a while. Pretty fun it was. I was a bit left thinking if this was actually the end, but from what PB said I guessed it was...
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 21:02:50 UTC Post #278975
yeah. First one was nice and short to ease you into it. Working on a slightly more diabolical one as we speak.

Excellent.
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 21:22:22 UTC Post #278977
I must be overanalyzing this.
It's hard to answer when I don't know what kind of answer I'm looking for. Is it a word? A phrase? A question? A verb/noun? Because I have possible solutions that fit all of those criteria, and none of them are any more rational than the next.
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 21:26:51 UTC Post #278978
You probably are. You can be absolutely sure you'll recognise the answer as such when you look at it.
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 21:37:53 UTC Post #278979
Any present-tense verb that has anything to do with any of the 3 new users is a potential answer.
If the answer is "oil rig" then there's a lot of useless information that lead me astray.

The search seems to take you to supersledge, where it either ends or takes you back in circles to billybop, because his bio says he wants you to meet billybop.
If it stops there, I am inclined to either say the answer is "treasure hunting", because it's the only interest that isn't present tense, or send him a PM and wait for him to reply with another clue, because one of his interests is "receiving PMs".

None of these answers seem sound.

Does it have something to do with Rimrook (same name, same country)?
Oskar Potatis Oskar Potatis🦔
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 21:44:13 UTC Post #278981
@Soup Miner: Not quite. You are indeed overanalyzing. It's simpler than you think.

Huntey, damn you. You brought me back to my good ole days of Notpron.
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 21:47:47 UTC Post #278982
Edit blocked by Potatis.
Continued:
If the search doesn't end with supersledge, then I feel like I have to start guessing present-tense verbs that come to mind when reading user bios and comments. EG: Mapping, cooking, selling, driving, receiving, working...

None of these answers are sound to me at all.

Edit: Well then the answer is "fag", because Huntey is one for providing all of this useless information without any hint as to what I'm actually looking for the begin with.
Hell, the answer could be "website" for all I know. This all takes place on one, afterall.
Posted 14 years ago2010-02-16 22:02:41 UTC Post #278983
I think I have the answer, but I'm too lazy to PM Huntey and check. It lines up with what Pb and DicsoStu have suggested.

the biggest clue I can give you, I've already stated.
If at any point during the investigation you find yourself logged in to any of these accounts (which you may)
People who have already got it without such a game-shatteringly obvious clue brought to their attention as being relevant - well done.

Oh and by the way, people who have already figured it out, it's worth logging back into your contact's account to see what the people who can't figure it out have been sending him

And the answer is clearly marked as being the answer. Don't confuse yourselves

@Jeff: You can. I didn't log out of twhl.co.za, I just opened a new tab with www.twhl.co.za (curiously a meta-bug related to the unrelated shout from earlier today) and logged in there.

@Huntey: Do you suggest that PMs are answered, or only read for amusement?
