Hello, mutual Supercars II fans!

Last year I started remaking an old classic, "Supercars II" using the source engine. I had it on the Atari and really liked the gameplay and mechanics and felt it was worthy of a remake. I think the target audience is mostly people who played the original, but I think the game has enough substance to be enjoyed by all, without the nostalgia.

The following website has the download, long trailer video and a quick tutorial video:

I appreciate any feedback you have, but remember it is a beta and graphics/detail have been a low priority, now that the engine is more or less ready I will be able to focus on aesthetics :)

Dude! That is awesome! Track is a little smallish but it's all good.

I had an Atari 800 and an Amiga 1000 back in the stone age. Still have the Amiga in the closet with an original Amiga Monitor that still works. I think it's got the big 10 meg HD--yeah, that's megs.

Oh yeah, get some flags or something. You know? The streamer flags.

Map on!

Agreed with kdunivan. It's great fun :)

I don't think I've played the original but this is fun on it's own for sure. More tracks! :D

Just checking - did you guys know there are 14 tracks on the current beta? 7 tracks in easy mode, another 7 different tracks for medium. I am working on the Hard tracks, they will be a challenge! I will be pretty busy for the next month but hopefully I can get those done during May.

I'd also like to know more about how you found the game, for example what sort of race positions were you getting, and how did you find the difficulty of car handling, AI skills, track difficulty and whether anything was confusing or unclear.

Thanks for your support so far

Moar tracks by popular demand!

I have uploaded a patch for your racing/shooting pleasure, an alpha version of the 'hard' series. 7 new tracks for y'all to try out. By 'alpha' I mean they should be fully working, but I haven't added any fences or much detail yet, so it should be all fun!

I will be working on efficiency tweaks and aesthetics next, but I need your input to improve this further and appeal to wider audiences!

Extract the following file into your "SourceMods/supercars/maps" folder:

might as well make this "Freeman Kart" and add a slew of nutty tracks and characters on go-carts from the various Valve games.

I'd map for it.

I think you're missing the point, this is a replica of a game from 1991. I plan to remain fairly faithful to the original theme, allowing for a few changes here and there. To change the theme entirely to some generic half-life driving mod may appeal to younger folk who grew up with HL but I believe the original game (from the Atari, not necessarily my mod) has what it takes to stand on it's own 2 feet and can be enjoyed by people who never played the original nearly 20 years ago.

I admit that my target audience are 23+ yr old Atari fans, but when I get round to adding some more 3D goodness maybe a wider audience will appreciate the game mechanics. I've left out a bunch of special weaponry whilst I battle with entity limits and optimisation.
