I'm looking for someone who can model and skin for Source. I want a billboard made in the basic style of this stock picture:
User posted image
one ad (only on the front), post supported, etc. The scale should be medium-sized, roughly 328 units high or so. The ad part will have to be higher than in the example picture above to accommodate the ad skins.
I have 4 skins for the ad part of the billboard designed, with a .psd template ready if you want to make another skin to take credit for the model that way. Alternatively, you could use the company name on the billboard's body (underneath the ad in the example above) and make it so that your name appears no matter what skin is being used.
Post here and I'll PM any interested modelers with a link to the .psd's and .png's that I've made for the skins (Sorry, I'm not any good with Source's material system- you may also want to make edits to two of the generic skins so they look better.
If you have any questions or I didn't explain well enough here, let me know and I'll do my best to clear things up.
Thank you for your time.

As a side note, the skins are subject to change as time goes on and I use them in specific projects; the skins and amount of skins will likely change for each mod or map package- I hope to soon be proficient enough in materials to do this myself. I haven't made skins for any other parts of the billboard, so you're free to do whatever you want in that aspect.

I don't really have any money- the most incentive I could give would be honing your skills. I guess I should have mentioned that.

I lolled. You don't just require some ones skills and then go: oh right, did I forget to mention? you're doing this for free.

I'd be doing this myself if I knew how- but I lack the software and skill to do it.

Besides, what's wrong with someone taking on a small project for practice?

you can do it yourself using Propper, to export brushwork as a model, or use the Func_lod entity.

As far as materials, it's very easy to add custom textures to source. Check out this thread by habboi

Propper would be a bit...constrictive... in the poly departement, I mean. Although, It might be more efficient to use propper to make the first version and make another after I finish downloading and learn Blender... Thanks for reminding me about it.

from what i remember, XSI is damn easy to integrate into source.
It's free and worth looking into.
I was kidding when i posted the paypal stuff.
In fact, i regret even doing so :(

It's a billboard model.

I doubt anyone would really get money off something that simple, unless it has a billion polys and has 2048x2048 textures, at which point you're selling the TEXTURES, not the model.

Something like a charactor model, weapon model would make a lot more sense.

Tet: Ah, I see. It's hard to tell over the internet whether someone's kidding/being sarcastic or not if they just use text. :\
I did look into the XSI mod tool, but the registration process seems... unnecessary for a free program. Why would they need your address for it, for example? I'm downloading blender now, but it'd be a while until I'm skilled with it, if ever. If you're interested in doing it, send me a PM and I'll get a link ready with the files.

Crollo: Yeah, exactly. And I've already made the textures that make up the important part of the billboard, it's just a dark metal texture and company faceplate that need textures. And really, a Base source texture could be used for the metal's base.

I have blender, and i've used it before, but i just dont know how to texture really.

And when you say 328 units high, is that just the supports, or does that include the board?

Hmm... I was thinking that the board would be, but when I think about it, the supports would be very short if it were that way. 328 for the supports would work.

I'm whipping something up in blender right now.
I dont think this should be too hard to texture as it's simple shapes, cylinders, cubes.. ect..
hardest thing IMO is the skins. Plus i've never compiled a model for source before. But it's a good learning experience!

Yeah. I'm uploading the texture bases now in PSD and PNG- highres and lowres. You may have to change the size of the board itself to fit the dimensions- the example picture's board is a bit short...
EDIT: PM sent.

Now i gotta scale and texture it.

Hmm and upon looking at it, i forgot the ladder.. no big deal that's easy to add.
I'm learning this as i go so don't hate me if its not perfect. I gotta go tho. I'll work on it more later.

Yeah, it's great so far. Just a few minor details missing right now- the rounded off corners (should be easier to see where to round them once you get one of the textures I sent on the board) And the plate where I presume your name would go so you're always credited when the model is used. But other than that, it looks wonderful.

Ok i'm back from work now. I'm gonna work on rounding the corners and getting the UV map all set and done. It's gonna take a while because this is my first time exporting from blender into source.

No problem- I have plenty of time before I'm ready to use it in my current map anyway.

Just wanna say that it's taken me more time trying to figure out how to export and compile the model that it has making it!
And, thankfully, skins are SO EASY. It's just a text file referencing the different vmt's.

Well, at least now the "Source modeler" tag on your profile is accurate... :P
As I said, it's no rush, so take it easy, no need to finish it tonight or anything. And I appreciate this.

well source modeller with XSI, which i forgot how to use. its simpler to export to half life but im just more comfortable with blender.
Lol I wanna figure this out too. My compo map can use some spiffing with custom props.

One thing: Please don't show any pics of the billboard that include the first skin- It's a spoiler.
