Have a look-see. 3 consecutive blog posts today, and a hell of a lot of new information regarding Polycount, which is now apparently called the Mann-conomy Update.
Apparently you will be able to outright buy items now (as well as just waiting for drops, like before).

Polycount weapon stats

This is colossal, to say the least. What do you think?
Oh, and weapon stats are becoming utter bullshit. Seriously.

wow. Need real money to buy virtual items. It's farmville all over again.

Wrong.

are you saying what I hypothesized was wrong, or that this way to garner cash by valve is wrong in the moral sense?

TF2 lost its charm pretty early on in my book. Basically, I couldn't care less for their updates.

Q: What's a Mann Co. Store?
A: Accessible from inside TF2, the Mann Co. Store will now let players buy, trade and customize the largest addition of inventory items in the game's history, using their Steam Wallets.

Q: What's a Steam Wallet?
A: Steam now has a feature called the Steam Wallet. It allows you to put money into it, which can then be spent either on in-game items, such as the ones offered in TF2?s Mann Co. Store, or on full products like games in the Steam store.

Q: Are store items priced in points, or some other weird currency?
A: No, the Steam Wallet uses the same real-world currency Steam currently supports (USD/GBP/Euros).
Team Fortress 2 is getting even "better"... I want the old TF2 back.

I think TF2 is still fun... if you don't like the store don't click it?

I myself will continue to eagerly await each item drop in game.

I'm saying you're wrong to say that players need to pay real money for virtual items. Like crafting before it, buying items is an alternative to waiting for drops for people who would rather have it now than have it eventually.

@Potatis: Well, at least the Steam wallet thing was going to be a part of Steam anyway.

With this store they are doing exactly what they claim they don't want to do. They segregate people into groups that can't play together: one group with players with big wallets and players who have played for a very long time, another group with those without big wallets who haven't played for a very long time. The first group has an advantage over the other thanks to having better weapons. Valve are giving the working class a disadvantage. This update will especially affect players from poor countries. These players have never been able to afford as many games as the other players, but at least they have been playing by the same rules in the games that they can afford.

TF2 has in my opinion been getting worse almost every update. I think it's too complicated now with so many different weapons. I used to enjoy the game.

My opinion is this. Keep the random item drops but make them purely cosmetic (Hats, Costumes, Wearable items that are just amusing) and leave out the new weapons and shit. Focus on releasing new maps and game modes. The class updates are what put me off. I prefer TFC now personally. TF2 used to be awesome, and they fucked it.

Should have mentioned trading too, now that it's finally set in motion.

@potatis: Not going to argue about TF2 being far too complicated now. I wholeheartedly agree.

Then can't you play on a vanilla server?

I don't think TF2 has turned to shit, I think you've all just gotten bored of it.

Nobody runs vanilla servers.
Nobody.

None of the new weapons are 'better' weapons. You stand as much chance with the stock guns as you do with the new ones. How well you do is only based on skill (and latency). Having these items or not doesn't segregate anyone.

As Soup said, this is just another alternative to unlocking the bonus items. You can get them from random drops, unlock them through achievements, craft them, soon trade them, and now buy them. Tell me that isn't a healthy set of options for getting new content. This is one of the better systems for DLC in existence, especially considering they drop a free update on use every 3-6 months.

I won't argue about what it's doing to the game though, I wasn't a fan of them introducing all the player made content to the game, though I love this guy.

Then I guess I might stand 2/12th of a chance when I finally get it!

Vanilla was lovely, the class updates were something interesting and unique, but then they started throwing in rare "drops" and "crafting" and all this crazy bull. TF2 is now like TRPG2. :(

soon trade them
Actually, trading is in effect right now. People are asking for hats left and right :zonked:

Don't complain, you guys haven't been playing Counter-strike competitively for the past 5 years only for valve to fuck you over royally.

I don't think anyone here plays competitive CS, unless I'm mistaken.
Also, playing CS isn't really a way to justify fucking someone over in a completely separate game.

I'm just saying what you guys [tf2 players] are facing is very small, just a couple of updates that don't change the game all that much, whereas valve just completely broke every aspect of a perfectly good game and continue to ruin it.

Uhm.
valve just completely broke every aspect of [CSS]
Are you sure you're not getting the two games mixed up? CSS was moved to the orange box engine and rates were fixed and a whole bunch of creative aspects of the newer engine have been made available to mappers (particle editor etc.)

TF2 gets semi-monthly updates which add several new weapons, new maps and even new game modes as well as hundreds of cosmetic changes.

Your perspective is very, very warped.

For the record I like that they're still pumping new content into TF2. Bots especially have been a nice addition to practice with the new weapons. I don't actually play it anymore, but I got bored of it long before the first class update.
And I prefer new CSS to old. The engine is just ludicrously better.

Well i would be perfectly fine if it was just a engine change and i agree 100%, the new engine is great, but what i mean is the gameplay changes, achievements, damage changes, hitboxes, bunnyhopping, surf...

Seriously though, let's just move on before this turns into a shitstorm.

Everything in this thread is something I'd say. So my post = this thread.
The TF2 getting shittier ideal, rather.

I'll still try to love it with everything I am, though.

I considered trying Fortress Forever until I watched some of the gameplay vids. The immense amount of bunny hopping and grenade jumping involved is just ludicrous.

Looks to me you have to play in that exact style to get anywhere in that mod. It seems the only way to get anywhere is to play like a complete cunt. :|
