So that means that textures will be originally made for source and then exported to a wad?
I would assume that would be the only way for the source entries to NOT look like crap.

Materials would need to be rather generic for the pack to be flexible enough to allow creative and diverse usage.

OhEmGee I want to make the wad and since I won't be using them, you know they'll be totally awesome because that's just the kind of luck I have! I'll even convert them to source format so everyone is happy :D

Wouldn't making source have extra maps kind of be slightly unfair?
Obviously the engine itself is superior, but I feel that that's slightly unfair if two identical maps made with identical textures will look significantly better in source, which might detract from the rating of the goldsource map.

got an idea let every one apply 2-3 textures then somebody will judge if a texture is fine, cool ;o

Rimrook, it's the other way around. Admins(or you) make the materials and then convert them to wads.

I do not agree that if wad textures look like shit source texture should too. If you're talking about disadvantages in the competition then why do we have the compo for the 2 engines after all? (I assume you were talking about specular\normal\blahblah maps, not the map itself).

Us moderators wouldn't be stupid enough to compare the quality of Goldsource textures to Source textures when reviewing the entries. Have some faith in us, come on.

They would have to be made for Source originally. Meaning at least 512x512 and normal and specular maps where appropriate. Porting Goldsource textures to Source is almost entirely pointless.

Anyway, if we choose this competition, we'll need a bit of time to get stuff in order.

Jesus, how hard is it too figure out?

Obviously, the two engines would be judged fairly and independently....

I think Hunt has proved that you CAN make a really nice detailed map in GS without having it look like something from Black Mesa.

How is this compo any different than any others that used both engines?

I think he wants to say that we should make textures, then put them in this thread, and the best ones will be chosen for the final wad.

I'd rather it be a surprise "a selection of a few textures chosen by the moderators or someone".
