This is plain ridiculous. I understand that because of the floods in Thailand the prices will rise, but why do they make ALREADY PRODUCED hard disks(and especially quite old models) so damn expensive? It's not justified!

For example, I bought this spring my Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB(best HDD for transfer speeds) at nearly 70$. From the same store, this HDD costs 125$ now.

Because the demand for them might not be met seeing how the floods screwed up production.

Some Canon products have had their prices raised ever since the Tsunami+Earthquake+Volcano Eruption+Nuclear Meltdown in Japan. Probably because some Canon factory was flooded, cracked in half, filled with lava and then irradiated, it won't be running for some time while they clean up and/or set up a new plant somewhere else. For the reason Daubster mentioned, products already produced are more expensive - not because it's more expensive to produce new ones, it's because they're producing them at a reduced rate or even not producing them at all.

Tough luck, I know.

I doubt that. We weren't shown clear evidence other than some news. Or at least I haven't seen any.

Doobeh is right. If they cant replace sold ones at the usual rate they will need to make them more expensive.
If they noticed that there was no more oil on earth today the prices for the already refined oil would go up.

Well this sucks. I had been putting off getting a new HDD. I guess now I will pay for that. D:

Got two Samsung drives for $85 each the other day (two of my drives died), thought the price was a bit steep. I found out about the HDD shortage two days later and checked the prices again...$110 each. Guess I got a bit lucky.

I got my F3 for 60-something a while back, doubt I'll be replacing it in the next four years unless it fails. Awww yeah.
