well i dont know what size should be given in half life 2, i have made a brush 48w 96h and scaled the texture to 0.22. still i dont know what is the point of this black area around the texture

Doors in Source are 108 units high and 48 wide, with an 8 unit frame I believe. Use the standard texture scale of 0.25, the black area is just leftover.

HL textures work in increments of 16 so a door texture could be 48 x 96 for a perfect 1:1 fit to your door.

Source textures work on a much more strict order of 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, etc, etc. The small increments of 16 just don't exist.
Therefore, when Valve made a texture to fit specific brushwork, they made it the correct dimensions, then placed it in the closest fitting bounding box they could. For example with this one, presumably it's 256 x 512.
