Hi,
I just read the favorite weapon thread lost in age. I was amazed to see that there was none of my favorite weapons from hl1 quoted. As a fan of the series I couldn't let my choice unknown to the world.
The crowbar of course. Allthough it's not my absolute preffered weapon but it almost defines Half Lile like the wrench in Prey...each 3d shooter has its base weapon.
The 357 magnum for it's a typical weapon style which appear in the movies.
The gauss and the egon for their scifi look.
The crossbow because it's a good weapon in Diablo2.
The snark. These little single eyed beasts are very clever and what's small is cute.
There should have be a thread for the favorite monsters too.

Not sure how Diablo 2's crossbow is relevant to Half Life.

Also, not sure I've seen this thread you mentioned so I'm going to put mine here as well. Gonna have to say Opposing Forces weapons are much better overall, and the sniper rifle takes the prize. I'm biased of course, since I love sniping.

I think Urby might be Charlie Brooker's pseudonym.

If we're talking Half-Life weapons, it's a no contest. Tripmines and Satchels! Who doesn't love traps? :badass: Tripmines a little more so, because it's fair enough people running into your Satchels and timing the blast right, but getting a kill with Tripmines is so much more satisfying.

Tripmines!
I didn't even think of it when I wrote this thread.
However it's the only weapons that I can use to kill an Assasssin. I'm not quick enough to cop with these ninja killers otherwise.
Thanks for the recall!

You're going to have to settle on one freedslave. You can't name five weapons as your one favourite :P

Actually, that's seven now, I think. Which is half of them.
I'm talking multiplayer, me. I can't profess a favourite in singleplayer terms.

I'm gonna have to go with the wrench with blue shift.

The heavy attack makes headcrabs EXPLODE!

All time favorite weapon: Any game: Hook shot from any Zelda. Especially oot.

Half life DM: Gauss, with Bow combo.

Half life SP: Shotty of course!

Half life mod: I like the sniper rifle from tfc, charge shot. :) Oh and I love the sawed off double barrel shotgun from Scientist Hunt, you know, the mod no one's ever heard of. It also has a giant spiky hammer that hurls scientists across the way.

Another mod, of course: cs: Scout, increases movement speed. Awesome. Take a shot, then hop around while pulling out your pistol to finish them off.

I play through the whole game with the glock.
Can't beat the accuracy and I'm a stickler for ammo.
Snarks would be my 2nd favorite. There's nothing like tossing 6 into a room full of grunts and listening to them suffer

crowbar is too weak in HL
glock is too accurate, making it OP at long range
357 is too strong
mp5 is too OP (spam grenades)
shotgun is too strong (double blast on a shotgun that cant do it IRL)
crossbow is too strong
rpg is effective vs. vehicles and aircraft
gauss is too strong
gluon gun is decent for an endgame weapon
hornetgun is a more OP version of glock that can corner spam and has unlimited ammo
grenades are standard for any FPS
satchel is a bit situational but can be useful
tripmine can be used to 'climb' walls
snarks are very situational in SP, may be alot more useful in MP

and the privilege of coding: adding new weapons!

Haha, I remember those new weapons. They were fun to shoot.
I wish we had all gotten together and actually made Home into a mod with maps. Made it a super TWHL collaboration or something.
