My interest in Airsoft dwindled fast after just getting started, but this thing is re-ignighting it:

Tippmann M4 Carbine

Full Overview

CO2 is way cheaper than a PolarStar HPA(high-pressure air) setup, and you can get CO2 fillups for around $5 bucks. (CO2 tank and hose hookups are around $50, MUCH cheaper than HPA)

Tippmann M4 are supposed to be incredibly fun to shoot with very strong recoil, and incredible reliability/performance. You can adjust the FPS and rate-of-fire with a simple allen screw, and there are ZERO electrics on the gun to fuck up or break--compared to polarstar.

You can convert it HPA as well, but then of course a compressed air tank and remote are very expensive, though you gain the big advantage of using your high-cap AEG mags. I like also that you can use individiual clips with a 12-gram CO2 cartridge.

I used to have a mild interest in Airsoft, but I've always been broke as hell.
And then I look at that price and think, "Geez, I could just buy an actual rifle with that kind of money."

Sure, but you can't legally shoot people with an actual rifle :P

I've owned various firearms, including a Bushmaster m4 and a Chinese AK, Glock 19, Grendel P-30, Beretta 25 auto, Beretta Bearcat, High Standard pistols, et cetera et cetera, but I never fired most of them even once--due to inconveniences with places to legally shoot.

For Airsoft, you need disposable income as the shit is not cheap(as you said comprable or more than real guns)... Also I feel blessed because I have an indoor arena 4 blocks away, and it's only about $80 for a monthly pass, where you can play 6 days a week--2 sessions per day, unlimited :)

There is also a kickass outdoor field about 7 miles away from home, which I have yet to try, but plan on attending soon!

Yeah, I guess I tend to forget that firing guns is probably a bit easier for me than most considering I live in Texas.

I have had a couple cheap airsoft and air guns, and just shot at cans and junk in my backyard before, but never gotten a chance to go anywhere and give actual airsoft a play.

Find some partners and open up an outdoor field! I've thought about finding some venture capital and opening up a shooting range & combat course... maybe someday.

I bet it'd be a lot easier startup in Texas than where I live in NY, in terms of restrictions and insurance costs.
