I'm redesigning the forums. Here's a basic list of what I hope to include with the redesign:

bbcode, much faster loading, better notification of new posts, read posts etc., non-hierarchical view, full thread displayed on one page. So basically, classic forum style.

Should I use continue to use popups for the New Post / Reply to Post forms, or make it all non-popup? Viewing posts will NOT be popup-based.

Any other ideas are very very welcome - reply!

Maybe a reply box at the BOTTOM of each thread? Will it be properly thread-based like phpBB? Only if it is :)

You don't mean the edge of the site, by any chance? :)

popups: You sure you don't want them, even just for making a new post (quicker to load on 56K)? I could always make it optional - that's another thing - I hope to create more member-specific options, like preferred number of posts per page etc.

images: okey-doke.

reply box: sure. what do you mean, 'properly threaded'? These are as threaded as you get! But it's not useful threading in TWHL's case, so yeah, the new ones will be phpBB-style.

I have a stripe on the right-hand side, too. Opera, 1024x768. Reply box at the end of each page of each thread (idea stolen from Clanintern.de). Images: hurrah!

I can't wait!

Pop-ups: bad
Images: good
phpBB style: GOOD

Even the default phpBB setup would be preferable to me over the current system. It's not that hard to set up and run and there's a ton of mods and styles for it.

phpBB is cool... but... do you really want to have separate accounts for the forums? And have to log-in separately? etc. Nah!

I'm not planning to use phpBB, just its style of threading (i.e. a topic, with replies all in one thread, readable on one page).

Yeah, phpBB's okay but a proper specific home-coded one's better!
