Whoa, Fisher Price make browsers now.

I think it might as well be mod-only. Why does anyone else need to see it?

wow! you put all of the maps n' mods on death row. a little drastic chow.

Mike has a great idea. what I have also seen on some other websites is when someone replies to your post, it sends you an e-mail, although we have so many active members and spamming that we would all be flooded with e-mails.

now I see why this would be good chow. There would be no more thread reviving, you could easly look up old information, and noobs could see if their question was answered first. I thought you just wanted to lump all the bad topics together and keep them just in case of anything.

If you do the member rating thing, are you just going to put numbers 1-10? something more creative would be more noob friendly.

lol, yah, i agree with BL. or n00bs can start voting after a certain number of posts or lohins...

Oh, I see. I thought the same as BL; you mean more of a readme-first forum with common answers?

well, yes and no. i put the symbol in threads that gave enough information to answer the question so no one else can post in that thread. But i also put the symbol in threads that are flamed or spammed up. ;)

Right, so let's drop that idea till atom returns and comments.

I personally think the avatar size should be reduced (120x120? Just looks so stupid with one-line posts and people with huge avatars), and restrictions on the size of images posted using <img> tags to stop them trashing the front page (latest posts) and the thread.

Some threads may contain things that are better deleted totally, so to make the Deathrow only available to mods would be good, IMO.

As for getting an e-mail when there was replied to your thread, that sounds good. However, it's best to make it an option, e.g. you choose you want to get an e-mail for a specific thread. Oh, and only one e-mail when there is replied, not an e-mail for each reply... ;)
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 11:55:56 UTC Post #45895
and live forum updates delieered to your mobile phone!

seriously though, the emails is a good idea, and it would help more if you could choose to get a reply when a certian member posts in that thread. for instance say i was posting m0p a question and i didnt know his email adress. i could ask it in the stuff forum and have it set so that i was emailed when he replied.

I would like to be a Map Vault Moderator. I have been here for a loooong time and know a good map grom a bad map if I see one. I guess I'll have to say please as well....Please?
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-28 14:57:39 UTC Post #45957
I'd say everyone here wants to be a MV mod, I do to.
I think the moderators will discuss this and choose wisely.
The email idea doesn't sound bad, but do you really check your emails more often than this forum. Especially when you've created a thread and are waiting for replies.
Maybe it'd be possible to do this via ICQ, MSN, AIM etc.

Hey BL, I'm a busy person too. No time for correct spelling. :)
Now that everyone post his wishes for the forum, some more things came back to my mind.
1.: Thread links should always lead to the last page. This saves traffic and low speed connection members, !!!ME!!!, will appreciate it.
2.: Lose that stupid 'Go to forum or back to the thread' page after writing a reply. Just show the updated thread window.

All good ideas people. I sincerly hope that some of these are implemented. I would definately like to offer my services as a MV Mod if the idea goes ahead.
With the rating system however, what happens to those that have been here for a while/posted a lot? Do we all start at zero? (Or haven't I read enough of this thread?). Anywho, good to see that TWHL is moving ahead.

i think we should lose the forum post count. some people seems to find it important. it makes the forum very spammy. maby we should lose the login count to, not sure about that, because we may need it for the other idea's.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-29 04:05:04 UTC Post #46263
Nah; logging in doesn't hurt anyone. I don't think anyone really looks at the post count, do they?
Seventh-Monkey Seventh-MonkeyPretty nifty
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-29 04:40:14 UTC Post #46276
Post count? I do look at that now and then but that's probably because Chatbear, VERC's forum host (and mine...) puts a users post count right below his nickname, so I'm used to keep track of it.

As for getting as much posts as possible, for me that doesn't mean an excuse to make senseless posts. As for new users, they probably don't even know it's kept track of, so I think it won't be a real problem. And to remove it because of a few users...
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-29 04:43:03 UTC Post #46277
Yes very true. I think atom can see where the majority of posts have been made too, if I'm not mistaken...

Hah chatbear. That brings me another idea.
Chatbear shows the average words per post amount. That might be more usefull than the post amount.
I also just noticed that Andy introduced an 'award for the best forum poster'.
This encourages to write less spam and more constructive stuff. Great idea!
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-29 07:30:50 UTC Post #46310
We should have that in pride of place on the main forum page! Or maybe on the top bar, where it shows the newest member.

okay, I'm looking at my forum posts.

hehe, sorry for all the spam. now I see how much I really do post.
about the counters:
I think you need to get rid of the journal entry one, and the maps one. someone may try and post the most maps, raising their little number their, which causes all those problems in the map vault. and no one cares about how many times they post in their journal.

im am alonmg with hazerdous. The award will make people post more constructive posts. Not spam. You wanna look smart to n00bs, dont you?

i got 1718 (12.9) posts. They used to be spam. Im trying to change.

oh, and you know how youve been closing posts recentlty seventh. Its because of the strict modding and i think you shouldnt have to do this. Hence my idea. Eh, atom? ;)

Seventh: no spamming in atom's own thread :P

Chow's Idea will really get rid of thread reviving, which is also a good thing.

listen to the monkey.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-30 16:00:19 UTC Post #46821
I don't like the "death row" idea. Just because a thread gets spammy at the end, doesn't mean there's no good information in it. Putting a thread in "death row" would make searching for info more difficult. I think the moderators have been doing a great job controlling the spam, so this suggestion seems completely useless and counterproductive. Hehe, but if bl and chow are all for it... lol
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-30 16:04:36 UTC Post #46827
Itll be easier for n00bs to find the information already given. And it will reduce the amount of revived threads. Whats wrong with that idea? and it wont be moved, just an icon will show that it cant be replied to.

I think he wants to put it in another place, like his picture showes. locking threads might actually be a better way to do it. That way they are all still in the same place, and they don't get revived.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-30 22:26:18 UTC Post #46916
I'm all for locking threads that have been answered and are getting spammed. But I'm against putting chow in authority over anything. :|
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-30 22:35:23 UTC Post #46919
why? He seems serious about his deathrow idea, and if he messed anything up, he would have his authority taken away, like anyone would. not saying you would chow.

I would trust chow even to be a moderater. He has stopped spamming so much, and that was really his only flaw in the past.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-31 00:55:18 UTC Post #46952
Well I think that the rating system is the best idea we could have lol. I have experience in that sort of thing because a clan I was once in had that exact thing, and you did get awards and things for doing well on the server and stuff. I really like the idea of being able to go for awards and getting "titles" under your name alot!

We should also have a poll thing that admins can call with public results you know? It could solve debate over forum topics and things much easier.

And for the rating system, it could be like the map rating thing (how it was for me) and you get ranked from 1-5 stars. Ok, and I haddd to bring this up once again for ATOM TO HEAR.

How about letting us post up animated gif''s for avatars. I would be and admin for checking that sort of stuff to make sure there isn't any hardcore graphics/text/ other extreme situations.<-----------ATOM LOOK!
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-31 05:32:45 UTC Post #47010
NO ANIMATED AVATARS! This has been discussed several times in the past.

There is a poll script, it was used once, and never since. I'm sure atom could easily adapt it and give Andy, Slayer and I permission to start votes if necessary.

Posted 20 years ago2004-07-31 15:24:27 UTC Post #47138
Na, me not liking you has nothing to do with it. I just don't think you have enough maturity to handle any authority, or enough mapping knowledge to know when a thread has been completely answered. Nothing personal.

Vassy, trapt, or Rabid would be much better choices imo.
