OK I am mainly posting this 4 people to see but I also have a question - for info about HL2 Editor go here

And my question is...

Does the 3D view of the new editor render lights 4 you without compiling?

"Per-face luxel density with preview" sounds a bit like that, but I'm not sure. We'll see once it's released...

Ahh 1 more question - R they going to have real-time relections? Like actual Mirrors? IT would be sad if they didnt.

You've probably not seen the trailer video's yet... I suggest you take a look around and get your hands on them.

the editor will be much unchanged, but it seems to have bump mapping!

I think it would be horribly laggy and difficult to render real-time reflections in editor.

Lighting in-editor is a good idea though. It's been done in two popular editors (RED and UnrealED) practically instantly, it might be harder/slower with the empty-world Geometry HL uses, though, I'm not sure.

I used to think that dynamic lighting was what the in-editor was but I was wrong. Btw, I have seen the trailor and believe me I got excited when I saw them - on the docks one the water kinda reflects but I don't remember if the player shows up in the reflections (kinda like the "mirrors" we have where you dont). One feature I am looking forward too is entity's-in-entity's !

I'm sure there'll be specular (perfect-mirror-style) reflection capabilities.

Well, I'm glad :|

I personally hope Hammer 4'll have much better lighting. I wish you could turn off the faux-shading in Hammer 3, all it does is hinders my mapping when there's glare on the screen.

It's French ;) I was just referring to the darkening of faces, uh, facing certain ways.
