You are speaking of a process called Decompiling. This is looked down upon by the bulk of the mapping community, and shouldnt be performed.

decompiling cn really be considered as "stealing". as long as you have the permission of the author you are allowed to decompile, although decompiling never goes right and you probably wont get any decompiler links here.

You won't do, at least not after a moderator sees them. Decompilers are not to be discussed on these forums. Persistent disobeyers of these rules will be unpleasantly humiliated ;)

Just for your info - Decompiling a bsp file is not a easy task and 9 times out of ten, you will have a mess to deal with. If you are trying to get ideas of a map layout or how a function works with a certain map, Please do yourself a favor and read the tutorials and look at the examples given, you will get alot farther and get more knowledge by trial and error, than copying someones idea, with no idea how they made something work or created the map in general.

I have had some one steal and decompile a very basic map that I made, needless to say, I was not happy. Give credit were credit is due. If you are allowed by the author to use the map - then let eveyone know that you are not the true author and you only modified the map.

With that said..... I will shut up now.

So, you don't have a copy of the .map file?
Well there is a lesson here... Always back up your RMF's and .map files.
Also make sure you let everyone know what you are doing in the first post!!

In your case, where you are decompiling your own work (Because you haven't got the originals)... then, I don't have a problem with decompiling... ethically or morally or community wise.

That doesn't mean I am going to tell you how and where to get the program... it just means that it can be done and if you look hard enough you will find out how.

Having rebuilt earlier versions of my own maps, I can offer this advice...
Don't Bother.
Start again from scratch...

Compiling your maps does things to the brushes, splitting them and such, and thus your decompiled map file both looks nothing like the original and will probably have errors and leaks, so you'd be much better off restarting as Andy suggested.
