its almost there, fire up your steam and watch the update, hl2 support is added, in the games menu the hl2 icon appeared!!

Pre-Loading means basically a encrypted version of the full game - you have it, but you cant play it.

Yeah for me the servers were busy but every minute I tried again and after like 5 minutes (NOT A HOUR) I got it going. IT takes like an hour and a half- two hours to download using broadband so its worthless without it.
What do I need to buy a cd-key to activate it? This is preety blunt asking this but doesn anyone know a way to unlock it (pirate basically)? I would buy the real copy for sure cause I need a cd, but I (like us all) are dying to play it lol

As for what I've heard, these pre-loading files only contain the souncs and some other resources. Whether that's true or not, I don't think it's the full game yet.
And to continue, it seems to be possible to preload HL2 and activate it with the CD-key you bought in a store. So instead of having to wait for the install, you can start playing immediatly...
But, that's just how I understand it so far.

Honestly, I don't care about a release date. I care about the actual release. Since that pre-loading stuff I feel it's pretty close. A few months maybe, who knows. It doesn't matter. I can wait.

It sux for me because all I can get is a really crappy graphics card due to me not having an AGP slot (or w/e it is). But I can deal with only have 30fps with hl2 (based on the cs:s video stress test).

I know, I've been in the same position several times but that's the only way you'll be able to get AGP support, a new mobo, and that'll probably require the rest.
I had to save up for about half a year for my current stuff, that's just the components mentioned above, with two paper rounds, when I was just turning fifteen (sixteen today! w00t).

Once the person that buys that box finds out it's already in use, he'll contact Valve, and since only he has the box and a sales coupon, he'll get to play the game. If my computer plays doom3 on the lowest settings without it going slow and jumping do you reakon it will play hl2 allright. I would upgrade the graphics card but my dad said hell buy a new computer next year so ill wait.
