Hey I was wondering if any of you know what I am talking about with this. A while back I saw some post in a forum which I forget that talked about hosting your own website from your computer using some program. Has anyone else heard of this because I seem to have lost the forum.

I use Apache. Highly recommended - I wouldn't try running a webserver unless you're decently computer-literate, though, 'cos there can be security issues if you set it/them up incorrectly. E-mail me if you need a hand with something in particular.

Nope, I had it running perfectly in a day or two, from no initial knowledge whatsoever.

I am quite the newbish one. HTTP server ehh? What does this mean that you can type in http://m.y.i.p/ and it directs it to my site? Their FAQ doesn't simplify things very much heh, this probably isn't for me but I am willing to give a go at it. And if its to your ip how do I get a solid name?

Well, do you have a dynamic IP?

I do, as do a coupla other people, Ant, Brad (I think), and we use services like www.no-ip.com.

An HTTP server will indeed allow you to access it via http://yourip.or.address.

Apache Win32 is sucky. Although, its better than the other Win32 servers out there. If you seriously want to host something, get FreeBSD or a decent Linux (not SuSE, Linspire/Lindows or mandrake. try Slackware or Debian) and run Apache on that.
