Pretty speedeh. Mine's not too fast, and gotta include logging in, too. I'd say about 30s from power to login, and maybe another minute logging in and connecting everything with their timed delays.

Ages for me since I need to cool down the contents of my liquid chiller first, then I need to start up my Mach II. That adds a few minutes to my startup. Now, when it gets to the BIOS, that has to load my RAID volumes through the SI BIOS which adds a bit of time, then I have to load my custom kernel for Debian which is slightly slower booting than the default kernel. I will clock it later...

My PC is crap, but it still does everyting from button to last startup item in about 2 minutes Max.

(good thing i got rid of the monitor, that took about 15 minutes to warm up - you have to have a fire in a rusty barrel flaming underneath to keep the heat)

Mine is processed in a speedy 47 milliseconds...
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-02 10:25:49 UTC Post #81031
1-2 minutes or something.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-02 10:31:11 UTC Post #81034
Mines a bitch, about the same as Vassy.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-02 10:32:09 UTC Post #81035
And no, dont take that the wrong way Vassy:lol: , I meant mine starts up about the same, 1-2 minutes. ;)
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-02 11:28:04 UTC Post #81039
Well, since I dramatically deleted startup processes, I guess it's about 1-2 min from button > last item or more.
Tip; Turn off auto-start for steam, it's annoying and you can start it yourself when you need it ;p
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-02 11:38:57 UTC Post #81044
Yeah, I did. It was annoying waiting for that to connect.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-02 12:57:37 UTC Post #81077
mine conacts in like a second. No problem for me. ;)

I have like 8 programs that open at start and its still like 20 seconds.

Ok, I have my starttime clocked! 10 minutes to properly cool denatured alcohol in liquid chiller, 2 minutes to cool down CPU cooling, and another 5 minutes before I'm at my desktop in X. So that's what, 17 minutes. Although, I don't need to run the chiller for 10 minutes, I could probably run for 5. And I could take some time off of booting by removing some excess stuff in my kernel and disabling X.

Air cooling is inferior. My CPU gets to ~-60C and GFX to ~-5C. You do that with air cooling! Go on! I dare ya!

no joke, my computer was really messed up a while ago, it took 30 mins to load. I never did find the problem but system restore fixed it, now it starts in about 20 secs

big power bill. And a heat problem. And a power box problem. Over heating.

How dumb is leaving on your PC?

It's smarter actually. Constant turning your machine on/off stresses mostly all the components on your pc, namely your power supply. Constant Heating and cooling down is detrimental to your pc's well being. Constant warm is better.

Uhhh. Constant cold actually.

Yeah, turning PCs off and on places more strain on the components than just leaving it on. I'll leave mine on constantly at some point in the future when I get a quiet PSU and fans.

If it's expensive, it can be relatively both, m0p.

Mine new PC is basically silent. I could leave it on but my parents think its a waste of monet due to energy "usage".

He runs a server, and it had 100% uptime from spring ?

Or he has an electricity bill that resembles world bank repayments of some 3-rd world country.
