every time i try to run CS or any HL1 based game it runs horribly slow. and this is on a PC that will play HL2 just fine. i checked the error logs and i would appreciate if anyone could make sense of this:

Error:Failed to load dialog file Resource/UI/ClassMenu.res

Function trace:

CGameUI::Initialize
CBaseUI::Start
CBaseUI::Initialize

Your Steam might be auto updating, I hate that, it kills my memory and theres no way to stop it(Im talking about the "Steam- Working" thing). IF I want to update my games I'll update them when I friggin feel ike it, not in the middle of a game.

You can stop that. Right-click the game, go to Properties and select "Do not automatically update this game."

Sometimes people are to stupid to look through the menu to solve a simple problem they caused in the first place, that is no reason why steam sucks but the people using it.

Steam doesn't exactly suck. It may be flawed in ways, but it is a very good way to distribute updates as well as solve hosting issues.
I've had no major problems with it since I bought HL2 and was forced to install it. Perhaps it hasn't cursed me yet, who knows. ;)

But why do people have to have internet to be able to instal HL2? That sucks = steam.. >_<
It should be like HL, Instal it on you computer,, like a NORMAL game, then, if you want it in steam, register the CD-key in steam, so you can play it in steam too.. :D

Dude, security.

They've obviously commited a lot of research into Steam and came to the conclusion that Steam was the best way to go to ensure a better way to secure their game. After that source code leak, they became dedicated towards it.
Most people that play their games have the Internet. It's a fact. There is a minority that do not. So, to ensure that the game remained secure and was able to reach as many as possible, they chose validation over Steam. Simple.

But steam DOES suck, as many original Half-Life players now know. Steam ruined Half-life for me, and many other people. And it's not like there is an alternative.

it's not because of Valve, it's because of the evil Vivendi behind ...

Yeah, too true. Those Vivendi scum are even worse than the Illuminati! :x

Dude, do I say that a lot? ;)

What really removes the proverbial is that everyone knows that the cracked versions of HL? run better than the legitimate copies. Wow, well played VALVe/Vivendi, you're getting like the RIAA and their cohorts...

Steam dosen't suck, its secure, quick and easy (if you have a decent PC), You don't even have to leave your house to buy a game, you can just DL it and put it on your credit card.

No, it doesn't suck. May not be the best, but it's fine for what it does.

It looks like you have been leading 2 lives mister Anderson, In one life your a stand-up comedian on channel 31 big shot, you pay whores for sex and help your land lady cary out her garbage.
In the other you go by as Jazhel and you execute a hate-campaign against steam exceeding your download limit in chatrooms downloading dutch-porn.

One of these lives has a future mister Anderson.

"Do you really want to know what STEAM is? I cant really tell you, you have to see it for yourself
If you take the red pill, you will find the truth about autoupdates and source.
Take the blue pill, and you'll wake up in WON, beleive whatever you want to beleive"

from the same film:

Kasperg: "Am I the One?"
Oracle: "Sorry, you have potential but..."
Kasperg :"But what?"
Oracle:"Maybe in the next mapping competition...sorry" :D
