Hello, my third thread, anyway, you know haflife 2? Well, when I place a light, the further you go away from it, the WHOLE map becomes darker, so if I'm under it, It's like a normal light in HL1, but when I walk away from it, it starts to get dimmer! I working on the new Hammer, please don't tell me to use the old hammer or use diffrent programs. It's really annoying when you need a normal light. J

If there are no fog effects in your map, I think this is caused by using a texture with a shader but not having built your cubemaps. Try texturing it differently to see if that's the problem. It happened to me in my first HL2 map

do you mean that everything gets darker the further you get from the light or that you screen goes dark the further you get away, becasue its supposed to get darker the further you get away.

Place cubemaps in the map and compile and when you play the map go into console and type buildcubemaps.

Maybe I should say it again in a diffrent way :

Let's say I'm standing underneath it looking at it, if I stand still, but look at the floor, the area that was bright get's darker

It happens in all maps :

I think I know what your talking about. I had this problem on the bridge in my map canyon oasis. When you looked at the bridge in my map at certain angles it seemed fine but at others the texture would suddenly go very dark. The problem was I was using a model/prop texture on it. I just changed it to a different texture and it was fine.

That's 'cause model texes are VertexLitGeneric and not Lightmapped so it uses a different lighting method which is odd for world brushes and it causes that effect. Check your tex.

What are cubmaps? I am very new to the sorce engine, maybe not Halflife engine but I have no idea about the Source engine :zonked:

HL2 Mapping

Very helpful site; not that this one isn't, but the site above is dedicated to HL2, has a comprehensive entity list, and alot of "how-to" tutorials for HL2. It's what I've been using to get my feet wet with HL2.
