I play winamp, browse webpages, download p2p, whilst compiling my maps--I have the patience of a hungry bear, just getting out of hibernation.

I'm not for positive this is a nasty habit, but I'm pretty sure it is...

I usually listen to ONE song for every mapping session, on repeat. That way I can keep the mood I wish to convey in the map :)

And I move the mouse pointer in circles when I'm compiling 'til it's done

I do that sometimes too--playing a song on repeat--, but not to convey a theme, mostly just to relax. I'm constantly suffering from the jitteriness of imbibing too much coffee :zonked:

While I'm mapping, I'm thinking how it will look like after compiling.
While compiling, I'm thinking what I will do next while mapping :D

rowley, you should get another PC and compile on that instead.

Hmm...I usually listen to some music but not just one track but trax of the same singer or band.

While I map I try to imagine how I want it to look like and then I map after that image. While compiling I usually go get some soda or cookies. Or maybe even watch Tee Vee if the map is very large.

Moving the mouse pointer around might be usefull to detect when your computer has stuck.

...I always spend ages on something I map only to just save it and forget about it...

i try doing pressups while i compile a map. its motivational, the bigger a map you make, the stronger you get. ;)

Also I have this illness where I start maps but never finish them aka cs_assault_habboi which I will finish now because people requested it to be finished :S

There are also NS maps I made but never finished cause they got boring to make...

Same...I have about 20 maps in which I haven't even bothered finishing...

And I always map sslloooowwwwwwwww (probably why I never finish) and never plan my maps. I just get ideas when I start on one section.

I also map a tiny little room or brush and exit. Do something else. Return and make another room or brush and exit. Repeat.

My maps always end up taking only a second for VIS...AND it's on full VIS  ...wonder if that's why it was laggy on my bro's comp...(even though de_sandyheat was really VIS'ed to a good point)

I compile RAD with -novismatrix or whatever, too impatient to run something that looks like it's supposed to be in VIS. Plus, what's the difference?

I compile on -low so I can do something. Hey, the compiles only take a minute anyway, but still, don't think I want a laggy mouse or something. Not really a bad habit, though.

Same with me, seventh. I just stop, dont map for a while, then start a whole new map.

I got some pretty sweet ones, too.

I think I've never left any multiplayer map unfinished, just one cs map that was too big and mostly singleplayer maps where the story just gets boring...

I never finish anything, usually due to getting bored.
m0p m0pIllogical.

I have only finished two maps, and both I was unhappy with, I am more pleased with the maps I dont finish than the ones I do....because I like master here, get bored with them. However, I have recently went back and started on my two favorite unfinished maps again. I am sure they will be completed within the month.

Heh - i'm lucky to have a dedicated compiling laptop - so while compiling, i fly about in 3d view and have Winamp in the background. :D

I am a proficient mapper but I very rarely finish a map, I don't know why but I just run out of ideas and have to start a new one. I have been mapping since HL1 came out, but have only ever released one map, and that was unfinished. (You can find it in the vault under the LlamaRama username (I keep forgetting my password, if any mods read this please delete my first and second accounts!)) This is rather infuriating and embarrassing, but I am getting to grips with Source editing at the moment and would like to join a HL1/2 mod to provide me with some motivation! I'll post some more maps soon. Sorry for the long email but no-one on TWHL knows anything about me yet :P

Hmmm - all you need is a simple reward system - if you finish an area you're set your self as a target - feed your self, if not - starve untill you do.

Its the only way to learn discipline.

Same, but then I listen to that song after the map is done, 3 months later and go "Hey, this reminds me of that one map..."

sometimes i use carve and hollow just to get it done quicker
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-30 03:14:26 UTC Post #100034
I open hammer and make a box and hollow it out. Then I try to think of where to start, and go get something to eat. After about 10 minutes I'll come back and delete the box and start the map. Almost everytime. One of them I actually turned into a tutorial map because I got frustrated trying to decide which map I wanted to start first
