i hav an idea! we can set up complex triggers so that we have a sort of arena. what we do is have an arena with a base at either end. 1 human 1 alien. we have the aliens set up to move forward taking different locations till they reach the human base and destroy it IF you do nothing. if you attack you can push them back to thier base where they spawn and destroy them! it would add a real strategic thingy to the mod.

a tip 4 when we make this. try and make it a game where u really know what u hav 2 do. not 1 where u run around killing and forget what ur actually doin.

Pql type games, like the original idea for all of this allowes people to make any environment, any gameplay type etc...
It makes no difference,

but.. if we decide to stick to a perticular story, and assign people chapters or maps to make then i think that freedom will go out the window, we'll need a poll then.

If we go for the gman has a mission for gordon thing, we could include objectives! Make it like timesplitters 2, perfect dark, goldeneye, TWINE, or nightfire.

Anyway, the dragging plot is cool... I love it. That?s what I tried to do, something easy (steal something) and then it gets more and more complicated as things evolve.
The objective things is also good, but it requires skills to make it part of a plot and not just a "Do this and do that" with no sense thing.

have u guys realised that the half-life engine aint much on outdoor environments. the poor draw distance etc would mean large, spaceous deserts/icelands etc would be almost impossible to map effectively. what bout trees aswell. i dont think a forest would be possible.

I shouldn't think a movie scriptwriter is necessary.......
....if you lot feel creatively underdeveloped, I'll have a go.
It seems to me that the critical elements are in order:
1) Setting(s)
2) Objectives
3) Characters
4) set pieces/information sections

And then the mapping itself

I think we need a little order... Let?s say... Everybody wants to have his part in the mod and it?s sure EVERYONE who takes part will :). The thing is to set ourselves an objective, let?s say, a 20 map mod.
And then we talk about how is it going to be, set up a story for it, think and discuss if it needs new models or such and finally we map.
We?re talking about a plot but, how is our mod going to be?. Wasn?t the original idea of it to make a bunch of maps?. Well, let?s discuss if we want an action mod, an adventure mod, some sort of Half Life mod... You know.

Ok for the plot, im beginning to like the space station/deep space setting more and more, go for that.
The mod(i think) will be that everyone that wants to get his map into it, then some1 just makes the necassary intros/endings, according to the plot-plan(make one!)

Gordon is on a mission for g-man , he has to find and a secret ____ ?
it is in a spacestation populated by the xen alien thingys, there are human grunts as well, they come on ships and are trying to stop you from getting it, cus they want it too. at the end you must get out of the space station with it before it blows up.

I think we would have to add more than just a space setting, despite how awesome it will be , because people may get bored looking at the same scenery for 20 levels. ( Case closed anyone?? )
But, I have thoughts: you know when gordon launched the satellite in half-life? Maybe something went wrong with it or associated space station, whilst he was gone, that he's gotta fix. Also, the bit in the end sequence where you see all the destroyed tanks and F-16s in Xen? Didn't the g-man mention something about humans having taken control of the border world? This gets me thinking, it could emerge that there has been a huge attempted invasion of Xen that has gone deeply pear shaped, and now the world has become the battleground. New York looking like stalingrad and all that. The g-man could have a secretive role as perhaps being the mastermind of all this, or maybe playing off the aliens and humans against each other, for some sort of personal gain...
Also lets not forget the other aliens from opfor who, correct me if I'm wrong, are also enemies of the Xen aliens. They could play a part.

maybe something goes wrong as gordon goes through the teleport at the end. there is a "time shift" and he ends up back in 1940. we could do a kind of timesplitters game, if you have played timesplitters you will know what i am talking about. ie space, wild west, black mesa, WWII, etc.

if we need any models for the weapons we could nick them from other mods, ie the bow from wanted in a medievil level, for a minigun we could nick the one from tfc, and WWII weapons from DoD.

um, we would just nick the models, not actually nick the weapons,
e.g. the wanted bow on the crossbow,

maybe we should base it on opfor as there is a wider selection of weapons and stuff.
