So most of you have logged onto Steam to find a new update.

A little message at the bottom states that there will defitnately be an expansion.

It's amazing how much peoples' specs've gone up, particularly the flood of Radeon 9800s and the deaths of MX440s (I switched between the two, as did at least one friend of mine).

A lot of people have realised that they need good specs to run Half-Life 2.

I for one already had top specs with a Radeon 9800.
So it ran fine for me. I feel sorry though for those who have to run on medium.

From the article: "You've done critical damage to the Citadel. The whole place is going to go up, taking out City 17 and what's in its immediate radius."

So what was the point of killing millions of people just to stop Breen escaping? It's not like Breen is cleverer than the Combine, he wouldn't be much of an asset. Seems a strange plan from the gman. And while Breen is going up towards the teleport he actually says: "Think of the people down below". (Okay, he probably would have said that anyway!) Gordon Freeman should have known better, what with his degree in theoretical physics.

I for one can't wait for dynamic lighting and this supposedly Lemarr, the little headcrab mod would be cool if he made it.

i only have a 1.0g pentium 3, 512mb ram, fx5200 nvidia vc, and 160gig hd. and it runs perfect for me in medium detail. loads a little slow though.

Not trying to sound ignorant or anything, but shouldn't this post go in another forum? Like stuff or something?

Maps and Mods? :x

To continue - I wonder if they'll use some of the features that didn't make it into the initial Source build like that new rendering system which reads data from photographs and then renders photorealistic environments based on them - Since Source is component-based they're able to easily replace and add onto it.

the article talks of making it 'as real to the eye as possible'

So that - for example - you move from dark to light too quickly, your eyes will need a few valuable seconds to refocus

I switched from MX440 to 9800Pro as well :)

Hunter, it's not focus, it's the iris adjusting to allow less (or more) light in.

The Hunter is only 11 or 12 so how do you expect him to know that :P

Clever though I must admit and the reason I posted in HL2 was because this is an expansion of HL2...

I hope they do it right because if they fuck up on it it would look totally tacky! Yeh Im preety sure that valve wont skimp on this one.

They said in the interview that they were limited when making HL2. They have noticed many mod teams are enjoying themselves and Valve want to do the same.

I'll repeat what I quoted before from the interview with the Valve bloke: "You've done critical damage to the Citadel. The whole place is going to go up, taking out City 17 and what's in its immediate radius."

I think that combine soldier in the pic looks a bit too calm given the situation in which the game ended... unless it's sort of a flashback intro.
If I could talk to vALVE, I would ask them the following questions.
1) HL2 Aftermath is due this summer, but I'd like to know if "this summer" means 2006 or 2007...
2)I'm glad you are making a remake of de_inferno, although I dont know what a "competion" is :D
3)I'm not enjoying the new HL2DM maps, but at the least they have helped me see how nice dm_7hour really is :P (I'm making another map now btw)
4)Did you get my hl2dm contest submission? Next time, could you at least send us a little ty email so we know? :
5)I hope Steam is considered illegal by the time HL3 comes out and it will be a normal game not requiring internet to play the SP part... :D
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-16 03:29:33 UTC Post #104270
heh from the pics so far etc these are my own thoughts.
1) No new textures
2) No new props
3) For the money
4) Will probly be on steaminess
5) Will need the net to play for the first six years (until hl3 comes out)
6) 1,2 and 3 cause its an expansion....
7) Will feature Cs:s:aftermath with one new map (so people buy it)
8) hl2dm stuff:no didn't enjoy the maps much...played dm_petrol instead.
9) de_inferno should be ok...though there are billions made already...
10) Will most likely feature hammer 4.000001 (so that we buy it)

At least it shows us some things:

Perhaps two new enemies and the citadel appears to be standing...

No, just something which internally looks similar is still standing. Of course, it might overlap a bit, that might be an intro cinematic, etc.

Two new enemies? Where? The eyes are part of a Combine soldier, and the thing behind is...can't remember what it is now, but it's in HL2. While you're travelling in the pod thing, look down on the walkways and you'll see 'em.

Lousy screenshot in my opinion. :P

They are called stalkers, the citadel was full of them.
I guess they are humans in a transition state to combine. (there is a decal poster in HL2 illustrating a sort of evolution from a human head to a combine one)
But hey, maybe the screenshot is from inside the citadel in city 16, which we will have to destroy in the next expansion!!

I think what we're witnessing here is a rivalry between the gman's corp. and breen's corp. The combine are nothing but a tool, a security precaution. The gman, as creepy as he is, is most likely the good guy. But you never know, it could be breen. The point is, gman doesn't care about the people, gordon doesn't have a choice, and breen is just a low-life corp. manager trying to put the whole world under his palm.
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-17 12:03:31 UTC Post #104482
That other new enemy is probably going to be that weird frog thing that was walking in a group of 3 below you while hanging from the holder thing in the citadel. they're called... like... walkers or something, i dunno. they're a dark green, walk like frogs, look mechanized.
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-17 12:48:08 UTC Post #104486

Well if you look at the combine you will notice a new arm so it must be a new elite combine or noob combine to get the player started!

The Stalker has an attack but the question is will the human side help Gordon or will its Combine half attack you?

I got this information from PC Gamer which is also printed here:

http://halflife2.filefront.com/news/PCGamer_UK_HL2_Aftermath_Exclusive_Scans;17860

you can see that the citadel is not scratched or damaged below so it must be standing but for how long ;)

Oh I just noticed this but the combine with the orange eyes are the same as the ones on the HL2 Deathmatch Background.
