This is the first stage of my city map and hopefully the first of a city based mappack. Check it out and give any ideas (it's just a basic outline of city, so I can add pretty much anything at this stage, so ideas!)

Duke Nukem 3D players are very welcome since I don't recall the level completey.

I've never played Duke Nukem 3D, so it's probably something I should do If I'm serious about working this project.

Looks pretty cool so far. The stuff textured with 'aaa trigger' is where models will go?

Uhm, not exactly. There I'll put a large text saying 'Cinema' and beneath it a black screen with the name of the current movie.

I have this interesting idea which will allow me to add animated screens without using the .avi playing modification to HL. Remember that sprites can be modified so that they don't always face the player? Well, this way I can make large animated screens with faster animation than the normal animated textures.

I'll do a test and we'll se what comes out of this one...

Sounds very interesting. I saw a link of of slackiller's HL progams page for a good fixed-axis sprite tool. Can't wait.

I tried loading the demo and it crashed my OS!!! Is there a windows XP friendly version?

As long as I remember it's unnecessary to use any special tools. Just make a sprite and then open it up in a HEX editor (Google). And the rest I don't reacall completely. Check the Collective .

Uhm, yeah, I forgot the language preferences :-)

And do you know that 19 years ago, on this day the 4th reactor of the Ukrainian NPP Chernobyl meltdowned? It's almost twenty years and it's aftermath is still visible among the so called 'children of the radiation'. Also 20% of the deaths after the accident were suicides, because of permanent disablement. =Read details here=

PS: 'клавиша' means 'the keyboard key'

Yes, I did know.

Unicode breaks atom's code, that's why I transliterated it ;).

Uhm, I'm having this problem with a custom sprite. It compiles normaly and when the map starts loading it crashes and returns "Mod_NumForName: <sprite.spr> not found". And it also doesn't appear in Hammer. I'm using Sprite Explorer to compile the sprite and Hammer 3.4 with ZHLT for the map. Any help??

There was a Duke 3D Half-Life mod that was forced to discontinue after 3D Realms bitched about it.

Pfft.

What, are they afraid someone'll finish a Duke Nukem game ahead of them?

PTS: Upload it, and i'll try if you like. I've never made custom sprites, so I have no advice really, except I've found sprites in genral can be unpredictable in nature.

For some reason when using sprites with env_shooter, some behave fine, and others shoot off in the wrong direction and display other weird behaviors for no clear reason.

Uhm, OK, I might, but it's 100 frames and almost 2 MB... I also tried with smaller ones, but they still don't work. And for that 3D Realms problem, I don't really mean finishing it, I just was lazy to think of another city idea. The following maps will unlikely be based on it anymore.

Hm... leak problem?

How strange. Are those doors entities, and is there anything behind them? The lighting looks direct only to me, presumably VIS having failed.

Those are solids, but the windows are func_walls and behind them is nothing but the void. I believe the compiler used the portal file from a previous compilation, but I'm not sure wether this is possible (the only thing I changed was the windows - they were glass func_walls and I tought I pressed 'To World' before compiling, but seems like I forgot to...

PS: Could you please replace the image with a link, since it screwes the thread area.

Make the windows solids ;)

PTS: I don't have the technology to run duke nukem 3d--tried and it crashed my os!!--, and since I neve played it, I have no frame of reference to work on the level

Sorry!
Posted 19 years ago2005-05-05 13:45:18 UTC Post #107635
Yes! Yes! It worked! Look at my beautiful animated billboard !

Now when I know how to make the sprites work can get some work done on my map. Expect updates soon.

Now, what should I put onscreen in the cinema? Should I use the original idea and put a hot babe or do something original of my own?

MoP: It isn't a leak problem I'm having I just wanted to show the wired behavior I encountered (VIS and RAD running properly regardless of the leak)

rowleybob: This won't be a problem, I can't run the game anymore too, so I'm changing most of the things to what I like. I'll make you a reference sketch of the place soon.

Yeah, will do. That was only a test. The only problem is that the sprite is 1.8MB. But, hey, it playes for 10 seconds! I can make a short looping scene of a fight or something.
Posted 19 years ago2005-05-06 02:44:02 UTC Post #107704
That is awsome...and the biggest sprite i've ever heard of! :P

Looking forward to the refernce sketch so I can start helping. Thanks btw!

I just found out I could use static sprites to make buildings in the background and not only. It saves alot of wpolys.

rowleybob: I managed to run the game using DOSbox but it's very slow. So I'm sticking with reference sketches, expect them by the end of the day (I'm having alot of things to do around this celebration today...)

PS: Say, why am I not allowed to update the .zip file with my map? Every time I try it says "Document contains no data!" and the "Make Changes" Buttons becomes disabled. What's wrong?

Dodgy compression? You're not using WinZip 9's proprietry compression, are you?

Sorry for not posting the schematics yestrday, but my brother dragged the computer to the other room where my cable can't reach... Anyway, I made one using AutoCAD since it's easier than drawing by hand:

7th: I just right-click then 'Add to archive...' (which starts WinRAR) and then select "ZIP" and "Best Compression". It always worked so far...

It's only an example layout, all that's need for the cinema is a bar, the cinema itslef and an arcade. How you put them togheter is your choise.

rowleybob: If you'd like to map an open city area and not the inside of a building I'll just send you template with instructions.

7th: I just tried using "Normal Compression" and it returned the same error. What am I doing wrong??
Posted 19 years ago2005-05-07 05:48:28 UTC Post #107893
I really don't know. Try submitting a ZIP from another source, just to see if you can?

Well, amazing, but it actually worked. It seems like ZIP size is limited only to 1MB (as soon as I reduced the size to 950KB everything worked fine).

I'll do whatever, just send me as much reference material/instructions as possible.
