HL1 is still an awesome game and will still be for many years. Probably end up being one of the most popular classics.

I prefer Quake II. rat808 you surely have Hl1 then why didn't you post a Hl1 map(always think that the one who examines the map has only Hl1). :D

Level changes didn't seem to work. Spent about ten minutes running around a room trying to get out when there wasn't anything else in the map.
Seventh, the room had a door, you needed to walk up to it, and press the use key, where a teleportal was inside, along with talking aliens! You missed it!

And the level change, what was wrong with it.. I gave simple instructions at the end of each map stating too bring your console down, and type 'map part4'
I don't understand why it didn't work for you!?

Yay, Trapt is turning into a slightly less lucid version of jobabob! :)

Hi, Skeeve, too!

Not quite sure what you mean about the instructions, UB. I managed to get along it all eventually, anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

J3r3my: yours was very nice in parts, and pretty basic in other bits. I mean, the general architecture was just... blocky, but the cubes were really nice. <style="trite">Remember, practice makes perfect, folks.</style>

wow. I cannot believe this.. I've gone mad.. Insanity lingers in my mind.. I just downloaded the compo maps...
THEY WON!? Are you serious! I put so much work into mine... then I get the chance to download there winning compo entries, and all I get was a non-unique map.. like, whats unique?.. The SETTING! (as it said in one of the readme's.

This is a dissapointment on the TWHL communtiy.
I'm sorry. I'm probably stepping out of line, but I'm a regular here,
and I believe I should have a say... and quite frankly, I'm ashamed.

My idea was original! So, was Kaspergs... BUT what about the architect... ?

I'm sorry guys, but I'm not sure if I'll be participating in the next compo, after I've been brought down to the lowest with my entry.

Aye. So popular, infact, that in 2004 it launched it's own fan-based remake modification to make it so much more pwn with the Source engine.

/me says that link's for trivial purposes and not mod-pimpage. Noooo!

@Unbreakable: Such is the way of contests. Nothing you can really do, unfortunately. I know entirely how it feels. I entered this one Csm2.net competition for CS:S and my entry was pretty much tossed into the shit pile - Didn't even make above fifth place (And the high-placing maps were, for the most part, pretty shit. Doodle and Ant know what I'm talking about here.) Pretty much one was a mixture of random props and textures with crappy texturing. Lost de_raincheck to it, I couldn't believe it at first. I realized, though, there's not much you can do.

Move on, keep mapping, and enter more competitions! It's not like there's an entry fee or anything, so you don't have much to lose really. (And even if you don't win, you have the accomplishment of another map completed and another item to showcase.)
your compos really suck! if you ever had an hl2 compo you would see groundbeaking things and mind blowing environments! hl1 compared to hl2 is like comparing a 1920's lawnmower to a 2005 saleen. its just not the same. i guess when you guys are ready for change you will make a new compo, and come into the 21st century.
I agree, but not. Whether you want to believe it or not, this is one of the few sites still offering HL1 competitions. Loads of 'em have CS:S competitions, some for cash prizes now. We're discussing the logicstics of a Source competition. Whether it will happen or not, who knows.

And easily, HL2 can offer some incredible visuals. But it's more of a challenge and accomplishment to do it in the HL1 engine first :)

Wow, that came across as seriously fucking arrogant to me. 'I put so much work into mine' - And the others didn't? Do you realise how much fucking VM is in my god damned map? Enough to drive people crazy. 'and all I get was a non-unique map.. like, whats unique?.. The SETTING!' - Well, have you ever seen a damn tropical island in the HL1 engine? Have you? No, didn't think so. In other words - it is unique! As far as I'm concerned, attempting something which hasn't been done before (and pulling it off, mind you) means it's unique. Get it? Something not done before = unique.

And if you really do think yours was the best, then get over it. Everyone has their own opinions, and this was the opinions of the judges.

So - if you are disappointed and ashamed of the TWHL community (dunno why though, makes no sense to be - you should be ashamed and disappointed with the judges... actually, I'm thinking you should be disappointed and ashamed at your idiotic and arrogant attitude), then you can, quite frankly, go and fuck yourself.

:)

:o...

Ideed.
We did have as much time as you and I started from the first minute thinking of ideas etc... In this compo I believe half of your time should've been filled with thinking of ideas, rather than mapping. I wrote down to myself 10 things that were going to be unique in my map, and tho I had to point them out to a few people afterwards, those 10 were in the map and people seemed to see them as unique. So, majority rules

Do not slander TWHL. Alex and I judged the maps, and we reached a consensus on which maps had a place in the final ranking. If you have an issue, contact either myself or Alex. If you don't wish to enter anymore competitions, then that is your prerogative, although I'd say that'd be a very foolish thing to do.

Dude, Unbreakable, I mean yours was special and i'm sure it took a lot of hard work and I see what you mean when you say Trapt's isn't all that special and I slightly agree because it was very short but it won because it was beautiful and I have never seen a map like that with all it's complications EVER!

Kasperg's was funny and although strange has the essence of HL1 and reminded everyone of all the funny jokes in TWHL.

Yours was cool and to be honest it should have special mention as a side win but you know thats life!
You will find in life that some people are ignorant and judge badly...We all agree that the winning maps 'deserved' to win yes!

Seems to me that things are turning a lil' sour round here lately...

Just remeber one thing:

IT'S ONLY A FCKING GAME! NO NEED TO GET UPSET ABOUT IT!

Well there you go, I hope that fixed things up a little.

P.s. If you could moan about the outcome of a competition, I would have gone back to my local newsagent and thrown my fcking lottery tickets back and demanded some cash... Unfortunately, it aint gonna happen!

By the way, has anyone actually seen the row of little red ants in my map? They are in the wall to your right at the beginning of the map, and dissapear into the same door where the headcrab goes in. It's suppossed to be a unique detail but I dont know if anyone noticed :D
