Just an idea for whomever manages the vault. Consider organizing the various catagories just a little more by giving an option to place maps by type of map, ie: HL, CS, TF and so on. Not a big deal but some of the maps don't specify what they're being made for and knuckleheads like me pull a CS map and try to run it under HL. :)

No no! Do it like hotmail. You must login every once in a while to keep your stuff here. Like every 21 days or 14 days. OR FACE MAP DELETION AND ACCOUNT CLOSING!!! Heh, seriously the map vault has become crowded with 1 login member maps. :|
Posted 20 years ago2003-11-28 15:31:23 UTC Post #5947
... Even better
theres like 95 maps in the completed section, should we celebrate the 100th somehow?
Posted 20 years ago2003-11-28 19:12:52 UTC Post #5966
no,

and i dont think threats to close accounts and delete maps are justified
Harsh yes, but...
The map vault was designed for what it's doing now.... no need to change it, but i do agree with mod icons of some sort...
Posted 20 years ago2003-11-29 07:31:00 UTC Post #5994
The map vault should in my opinion be for the members who want feedback on their created maps and for those guys who have map problems. I also support the examples. Is 3 weeks for next login to much to ask? I want to get rid of those who register, post their maps, then leave and never return. That's not what our membership is for.

I think the Hotmal idea is gr8, it'll weed out those who aren't really interested in mapping and leave the real dedicated ones...Good Idea!

No, it's VERY bad. What if someone is going on holiday for a couple of months or so with no access to a computer or the internet but is normally a regular? It would be so unfair on them, having their account deleted because they need a break. No, keep the members here, but try to encourage them to stay.
Posted 20 years ago2003-11-29 16:40:54 UTC Post #6027
There would be a "Holiday mode"(like on many online games), where you didnt need to login for that time.
Posted 20 years ago2003-11-29 19:31:27 UTC Post #6044
so ppl would just go on holiday time for the max time allowed
Posted 20 years ago2003-11-29 21:09:38 UTC Post #6054
Yeah and maybe u would have to be a member for a specific ami=ount of time before 'Holiday time' is availiable to use

i dont think the 1s that become members just for the map-vault is doing it cause theyre evil, just cause they wanna pimp their map alittle.
They wouldnt go into holiday mode unless told to.
Maybe the spammers(the pigraper, silent bob) would, but they can get banned.

The easyest way to to this is to keep going the way we are and not start messing with timings of accounts etc... its silly
Posted 20 years ago2003-11-30 15:46:17 UTC Post #6123
well, the membercount is increasing(dangerously?) fast.

You don't have to delete all content and close an account in one go...

There should be two phases: 30 and 60 days. At 30 days a warning email is sent out. After 60 days the account is closed and content deleted

As far as holidays go, who goes on vacation for two months without access to a computer? Maybe a monk?

Maybe me :).

Cool ideas guys. I like the two-phase thing - it would give me a chance to answer my warning e-mails :)

To the OP: I really don't know why it's taking me so long to do the little mod icons. Might have something to do with having both my arms amputated and having to learn how to use a PC all over again. Life's a bitch sometimes.

Hi all, i think that u should not delete accounts or ban ppl or have that bad idea about havin 2 log in within 14 days or every thing gets deleted because it sux bad but u should maybe change the ap vault thing but its ok as it is but could be better :D
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-06 10:20:45 UTC Post #6790
G_KID, otherwise we'll just end up with a huge amount of space being used up on the site's servers with maps that no-one looks at after a while. Makes sense to delete maps for those who are just joining, posting and leaving. TWHL's not a map publishing place.

As you can all see from Atom's post... it is being worked on.
I accept that there are some maps that have been around for a while, and there are invalid zips that have been around for ages, that the poster has not uploaded again.
I did delete some maps that were older than 3 Months and invalid, and I will do the same again at the end of December, sort of a spring clean.
As for stopping people just posting maps and running away... well if you look at some of the maps, then you will understand why they have run away ;) but the Vault is there for everyone.... Never know, you might get an idea based on something in there.
