so is there any way to start the player off with equipment (ie the hev suit) without just starting them on top of it? or is there at least a way to turn off the dialouge that your suit tells you when you get it? yes i know that this is prolly a noob question, but i've searched the entire snarkpit forums, half of these forums, and all the tuts on this site, but i cant seem to find an answer... ever google hasnt come up with anything! :

That's for CS only as far as I know.

Elon's right. There's no 'proper' way to start the player with a HEV suit in HL other than that.

game_player_equip isnt for CS, as ive just found out in the HL entity guide (how very useful :nuts: )

well, the best way to negate the pickup sound for the suit is to have a camera sequence start right off the bat. preferably one where the camera is doing something on the other side of the map so the player never hears the HEV booting while the camera is running.

But this only works well if you have the camera watching a usefull event, like a scripted sequence that tells the player about some plot element or something

actually the only reason i want this is so that the player can't hear the logon speech from the hev suit when they start the level, so is there anyway i can disable this or mute it?

No, you can make the suit play a short logon sound, but you can't disable it, unless you make an empty wav with the same name as the logon sound.

The game_player_equip entity is actually pretty easy to set up.
Simply place one and open its properties, then click the smart edit button. Now click add so you add a new keyvalue. The key is the weapon entity name, and the value is how many of this weapon the player will get. For example:

Key: weapon_9mmAR
value: 4

will give the player a mp5.

tunr off your speakers or unplug headphones at the start of the level..

ok go into your world spawn setting(where you pick the sky) and put a say yes to start with hev.
