I have one, but it was bought for me - and I've never even heard of the brand (some weird Japanese brand) but it seems to do the job... I just use it as a microphone :

Hardware: Creative Zen NX 60GB (I think they are discontinued now, but they have great battery life, and a giant HDD, but they are rather large ;o).
Software: XMMS (or sometimes amarok)

How do they suck? Mine says 12 hour batter life and its lasted for more than 12 hours when I use it. Plus mine is 20GB and last time I checked that was way better than 5GB :P

iPod shuffles seem completely pointless. I had a 512MiB generic MP3/WMA player, left it on a train. No big deal, really. I was considering getting a Rio Karma but they appear to fuck up all the time :(.

I think anything below a Gig is pretty useless: why don't you just get an MP3 CD player? They store 700 Megs on a CD.

I've got a mp3 cd player, but I think I'll get Zen Touch when the price drops a bit.

MP3CDs are just clumsy and lame - mp3 ftw.

OGG Vorbis at a lowly 128kb/sec sounds better than a 320kb/sec MP3 by far. I myself rip at 256kb/sec, I used to use 320kb/sec but it wasted loads of space so I downsized some stuff to 256.
