Ok, question:
SHOOT someone who MIGHT be a terrorist, yet TASER someone who almost definately IS and might be strapped with explosives? What gives?

the police are probably trying to cut down on 'innocent shootings' by tasering their targets instead. But i would think that firing paralyzing darts would be good enough, but noooooo.

Well, it won't be exactly the same. But we'll have the same basic police state rules. Break the slightest rule, you get beat to shit by police. You walk on the grass, you get killed. You don't pick up litter, you get hit with a giant stick. etc etc

The whole idea of Big Brother, camera control 24 hours a day 7 days a week of each individual is never going to happen, mainly because it is not profitable. The amount of resources needed to exert this kind of activity surpasses what you could ever get in return.
10 years from now, Bush will not be in power (he really isnt in control of anything right now either, just a sort of puppet), and even if he was, his power for legislation wouldn't affect other countries without consensus.

yes, but control over every single person (like cameras, officers yadda yadda yadda) would in reality costs millions maybe even billions and would cost the government a fortune in maintaining this 'big brother country' the resources required would be devastating. and the men you would need to bring in for a total police state would be something huge as well. 5 years of it and i bet you the economy would be ready to colapse due to government pushing taxes up to pay for it. If this ever happens that is (not likely)

And even if it does there is a simply rule, what comes up, most come down police state on britain isnt gonna be too politely taken by the people of this country. If you consider City17 to become reality, you've gotta consider its side-affects too (not actually any aliens, just things like rebels) by the end of all that you've got anarchy, so much for police state.... :

What I meant by resources was money and people as well. If thousands of jobs of that type were created, the economy would surely suffer in another sector and like I said before, it probably wouldnt be worth it.
Anyway, the thought that our world could turn into some sort of City 17 or Matrix world is not possible unless:
-Aliens invade earth (in which case we have Dakota Faning to scare them off with her shrieks)
-Machines take control of earth (in which case the threat is minimal since they would run a Microsoft OS and crash)

We live in a world of human beings, which are known to fight (die if neccesary) to gain their goals of conquest, freedom, etc.
