I saw a post awhile back and have tried searching thru previous threads but can't seem to find it.

The post mentioned being able to see the sprites in 3D view vs. the blocks that you get with Spirit. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Well, the new v. of Hammer is a start, then the newest update of the fgd, then unpaking your pak(explained in the hammer help file) then you have your sprites and models(Hammer 3.5 only btw)

Clicky:::>
Hammer Beta 3.5

The new fgd is on the same page

But if you're talking about spirit, then you'll need to download the latest version of that too (its 1.2 currently) and has the latest fgd for hammer 3.5 to download >>> http://spirit.valve-erc.com/

I am using VHE 3.5 and Sprirt 1.2. And this morning I updated to the new Spirit fgd file. I now have model viewing in 3D. But I still have boxes for all other entities. When you get alot of lights and sounds it would be nice to look for a speaker or light bulb insteading of trying to remember what is where.

Do I need to combine the HL fgd and the Spirit fdg to get this or do I need to unpak some file to get them to show?

entities arent assigned any pictures, the only ones that are (ambient_generic, lights) were defined in worldcraft itself. If you are referring to env_sprites then just copy whatever sprites you want to a relevant directory, eg:

Mapping for Spirit
Sprites folder - Halflife/Spirit/sprites/

So stick everything in that folder into hammer34/sprites/

As shown in the above directory name, VHE3.5 (which I wholly dont recommend) is not required.

Why don't you recommend it? I mean, I didn't really see much of a difference in the two to be honest. Other than no prefabs, much to my displeasure.

You can copy prefabs across. I don't like it because it's inherintly unstable and crashes whenever I load a complicated map into it, something thats kind of required for the insane ent work I use hammer for sometimes.

Actually, sprite display for entities is completely defined in the .fgd. In order for the sprites to actually be displayed:
1. The sprite() helper must be added to the entity definition in the .fgd (this is probably already done, unless its a relatively new/unknown mod)

2. The sprite files (.spr) must be in either the 'HammerSprites' folder, or in one of the folders specified by "Game Directory" and "Mod Directory" in Hammer's options->Game Configuration tab.
