I would be really grateful if you lot would read all of this, and not skim any bits, as i know it's a bit longwinded. I stand by my previous thoughts:

It starts off with gordon hunting somewhere for a specimen of some type or other of the venerable anomalous material, possibly on a distant planet such as wherever the opfor aliens came from, and embarks on what develops into a more difficult mission as the aliens try to keep it from him. As he goes, he uncovers more about what happened to black mesa in his his absense (he hasn't been back since), and why the aliens want it so much. It emerges that there was another "white mesa" somewhere in the frigid polar regions of earth or on an ice planet, and it is there that gordon travels. He finds adrian sheperd in a state of suspended animation or whatnot, and once freed tells gordon of all that transpired, specifically the nuke. At this point they realize that the whole earth has been invaded by aliens. But, joy of joys, there is a time displacement facility!! So either with or without sheperd, gordon battles his way to the time transporter (on earth, in space, wherever) and returns to black mesa before the bomb goes off, and confronts the final threat that may or may not have been apparent in the other games. The g-man could have a shocking role in all of this, maybe as the guy who sold earth out, and sent gordon off into space whilst he was planning the invasion. But in the end, gordon finds a solution, prevents the bomb going off, and celebrates with a nice drink.

1] join up with G-man
2]join up with shepard
3]kill shepard
4]end up in hospital
5] doom the world instead?

I think for teaming up:
Shephard meets gordon. They team up. They meet Calhoun, Dr. R., Simmons and Walter (From BS). They form a big team. Freeman, Calhoun and Shephard do all the fighting, Dr. Rosenberg and the scientists do the techy stuff. For the plot, I think we should have Shephard escaping the osprey he was trapped in due to gman forgetting to close the portal (You never see it close!). He ends up in an FBI base where gman works and has to escape completely unarmed, without a suit or anything. That could be a stealth portion of the mod. Then, he meets freeman somehow, and they head to a base of some sort somewhere which has a load of black mesa archives. They find a survivor list. On the list, it has the locations of some survivors (Calhoun etc.). Then we have some sort of plot. I can't think of a plot, I'll leave you lot to the plot, but I hope you incorporate my idea.

Those are all good ideas! I like the one from Vassy especially, but the one from high_voltage is good. I can't decide which one is better! ERRRMM... Dunno! Both excellent ideas! ;)

I would DEFINATELY vote for the TS storyline idea, and here's why:

We could structure the mod around a central "portal room" which allows the player to choose the next three or so levels, and also unlock newer, harder levels once he completed enough of the easier ones. The storyline is quite flexible therefore, although it's impossible to appease everyone, we can still have something that everybody can contribute their own ideas too, without any limits on how much people can or can't do.

I though that we should brake away from original hl and the standard disaster at black mesa plot - lets face it - an hl mod will not get as much hype as one created from scratch. But, lets not brake away entirely, rather, offer some kind of prequel or continuation or a parallel, or explanation of the events etc, a bit like op4 - very original and yet ties in with the game perfectly. This I think will appeal to many of the members as they are already mapping Half-Life/BM environments. Here's a rough storyline with random words and some suggestions
  • Set somewhere far away from black mesa...
  • Still the same black messa-ish-ness; maybe the company who '' went to some lengths to get it'' - the subject of the experiment in original hl
  • We can (legally) use everything and or anything from all of the retail hl mods - HL, OP4, Blue Shift, which should be enough leeway for creative storylines
  • The mod might follow the life of an average worker from the company and who gets tied up in the secrecy of the matter, some mishaps with the ''sample'' etc.
Now, how does this all tie in with the original concept? And how does this allow for total freedom in mapping?

Well basically - the ''specimen is so unstable, that during transport or drilling, it goes off, destroying most of itself and ripping the fabric of time/dimensions/ whatever you want... so you can see how this can be made into an incoherently coherent mod

At this point though, another possible story can be adopted: The search and recovery party member sent in to salvage what they can from the '' drilling/ transport/etc incident'' and the rest writes itself - big disaster that already ruptured space/time or something of the sort.

my idea - do as vassy's idea, but the plot is that they have to find the specimin to charge a secret laser cannon that will wreck the borderworld, because it has been overrun by the xen.

i think we could use vassys idea but have ALTERNATIVE endings, such as different people saved have diff roles in the ending. also how about playin as gordon AND shepard by giving him an hev. we couled av stuff like gordon gettin captured and shepard goes out to save him or them havin 2 split up and do summin.

I don't think we should vote like this. I think we should have a poll like we did with the last contest, and have the same 2 hour privilege that regulars get. Voting for yourself would have to be allowed, obviously, so maybe we shouldn't vote. Maybe we should just all get together on IRC or something and decide then.

It is a great idea. A giant bucket that takes over the world. THats the game for the average idiot. Many stupid people would find it hilariouse and would play it just because they are stupid.
The story line could be that the annonamouse material could be put in a bucket, forcing all kinds of creepy things out and makeing the bucket swell to enormas size.

 The bucket could have minions that hunt down anything that is against the bucket.
All of your old heros and the G-Man get sucked into the bucket and die.  A new hero could start with every weapon from the old game and then collect new ones along the way.  He could go on a rampage, killing little buckets that create a huge explosion when killed.
When the hero reaches the giant bucket, he has a huge fight, like the one in the first Hald-Life where he fights the big baby thing, where he has to kill all the switches on the bucket.
Then after they are all shot, the bucket kicks the bucket. :lol:

The Mod, TWHL will be announced soon.
I have read most of the stuff that has been posted and there really are some great ideas.. But ideas don't get off the ground unless they are organised and kicked off.
I will post the Basic theme and requirements next week, I am just waiting on a few people to get back to me.
Once that is done, you can either participate (if you want to) or you can give it a miss (becasue you think the theme sucks)...

I kinda like the Bucket idea.... but that comes from people telling me I am an Idiot all the time.

If you want a full blown Mod with Coding and new models and new textures and cool sound.......... Then you might have to figure out how you are going to do it ;)
If you want to map (and yes... you will have a theme, storyline and production task) then stay tuned.
You might have already realised that getting a Mod off the ground isn't easy, because everyone wants to do something differently. If you don't believe me, just check out how long the forum posts for stuff about getting a Mod going have been, urm.. well, going.

So, once again for those of you who missed it the first time.
A members mapping compilation based on HL v48 1.1.1.0 will be set up in the New Year.
Those who want to participate will be given a code number to call their map and the entities in it, they will also get a topic/theme/idea about where their map fit's in the Project.
And that folks is the Key word.... Project.
Notice how I didn't say Mod....

You don't have to play if you don't want to, so if your pissed off that it isn't what you expected, you can always start your own Mod
