I already have some pretty nice MIDI compatible software, along with 3 years of experience on the keyboard, and now im looking to create my own music. I was wondering what you guys thought might be the best way to go about doing this, an actual, physical synthesizer or a keyboard. I was looking in to some keyboards with some pretty decent specs, and was wondering if anybody had any specific suggestions. So far I am pretty intrested in http://www.alesis.com/product.php?id=12 but I want to know if anyone has some equipment suggestions or ideas as to how to go about doing it.

I am not looking to create music note by note on the computer, and I am mainly looking to create techno/dance music.

Fuck, I mis-spelled suggestions :(

EDIT: Wow, we have an edit feature?
Damn, I've missed a lot...

Well, you can go the cheapo route (like I did) and purchase Acid Pro 4 and a few of Magix's Soundpool loop CDs, then just cut, paste, mix and match. That's basically what I did with all my songs here: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=211395&T=8212

However, if you're willing to toss some cash, I'd look into Reason (the program). It's a synthesizer program that works well with a MIDI keyboard (keystation is good.) It's what I used to make the byte "Mystical."

Of course, go with whatever you want. You probably know more about music than I do. Sowwee.

Music is not easy thing.

3 years of experience as a performer is hardly enough.

but, if you feel the calling... I'd be glad to help.

I work with a software called "Finale". Fairly expensive, but if you want to get serious with music, thats the program to use.

theblackviper: what software do you use? I've used cakewalk homestudio for years, but it doesn't work with windows xp. Also, I'm looking into a firewire mixing console, and does your program work with that?

Now to help you, I would recommend cakewalk products, because I've always found them easy to use and affordable.

What you want is Cubase plus lot's of expensive VST synths, but all of that will probably be way out of your pricerange.

Cakewalk are nice programs, i use them a lot, warmly recomended.
If you are going to record sounds as well and not just from the keybord i recomend wavelab.

Reason is for the pro?s, you don?t need that if you only are a beginner, work your way up

The software that I am planning on using is Sony ACID and MAJIX

sony! shudder they make heavy laptops, so I don't like them! (bad reason) But yeah, I guess i'll just have to go with cakewalk, for the price.
@m0p: I can get a mixer/with extremely powerful software for about $2600 new, in fact the band that i'm in is using it right now to produce a cd! But it's only for macs. I have a pc. And i'm not getting a mac just to do recording.
if fscking home studio worked, i'd use that!
