I suggest an official award for members who have contributed exeptional work to TWHL, such as SlayerA with Minimicus...

This could be given as an... Outstanding Work... type award...

When those boys come out with Hostage Situation, it is obviously worth mention to this degree...

and something like Timefall from Tlax... wherever he is...

Not sure what you would call it, but its worth the effort.

What about my TWHL dedication map? :D
Sounds like a good idea but I don't think too many awards is good for those who don't have any, it'll make them bitter, lets keep the original ones and if people wan't to show off their work, then it shows on the front page as Top maps or the comments show how good they are...

So my answer is no need :D

I like to swim in awards too, yeah...

but seriously, what's the point of awards this and awards that? They're nice signs but nothing more than that. If you've finished a great mappack or mod, you don't need an award to see your work get acknowledged.

So, if you ask me, it's of no use.

Hum, can't see any reason, really. People aren't making such mods to contribute to the site.

I don't expect to make any more awards.

such good mods?
or such mods that supports TWHL? :

The way i see it,
I think people have something to live up to, when they can get awarded for their work at TWHL.

What about a points system, like the Snarkpoints at The Snarkpit.
You'll gain points for every action you perform here at TWHL, like posting maps, commenting, getting rated, etc. You get the point. :)

I like that idea, it's not childish!
It makes people earn the awards, and not just get them.

I totally second that, Madcow. I hope 7th likes the idea. Its not childish at all, its something to live up to, as regular of this site.

Well for the record - people do earn them.
It's not like:

Seventh-Monkey: Hey Daub, wanna get a mv award?
Daubster: Ya, ok.
Seventh-Monkey: Hold on.. There. Who's next?

I agree with Saco, a point system would be kinda gay.. The awards wouldn't be something special anymore... :

Tutorial award = If you have written a tutorial.

Forum award = Posted many replies on editing forums (not maps and mods, general discussion or site suggestions)

Mapvault award = Many mapvault comments and/or many maps

Could by done by a counting system, why is it gay? ( :P )
The award is still special to get!
Just set the points to reach high!

Then, people will spam more and submit more crappy maps just to earn points.

And I suggested that earlier...A mod award...7th said like''We dont need any'' .I just hope that he will give an award to those who made a mod...(not a minimod,a big and long one[lol, that description was sort a weird])

im not mapping cause of any bloody awards. i make maps cause i think its fun.
saco is right. points and stuff will only result in more spam and stuff... making the whole experiance with this page, atleast for me, less plesant :|

I see no need to automate the award process, and the awards are for site contribution.

Awards are self inspirational.
I mapped, and mapped, and mapped, and then mapped again.
The only thing that kept me going to just to make people say ooh and aah.
Now, I have been decorated for outstanding work.
It may be a bunch of pixels, but it does mean something when you work really hard to achieve it. It took me way over a year to get as skilled as I have, and I am Proud to have such a symbol of greatness abroad my account.

Awards should be earned. If you want to give stripes or stars, or some other smaller awards like the real military does it, be my guest. But the real award should be in satisfaction and the joy of mapping.

I sounded like a hippy :(

We are not saying that the awards must be cancelled...we are saying that there shall not be any point system...

Hmm...

to be honest, I don't like a point system... Kinda dull.

I like the little tags under the names though. Maybe putting more consideration into finalizing those, and having some kind of rank system. I believe you said they were temporary? If not, its still a good thing, since someone is not going to click on your name to find out you won a forum award, or a trophie. This way new members know who to trust... with each specific problem... A "decorated member" obviously has great mapping skill, where a "content contributor" knows his stuff.

Heres a suggestion..

eh'em (Unbreakable Clears His Throat)

I think, I should get an award, perhaps as Respectable Member
or something like that...
Well what do you guys think!? :D

And how exactly would that be gauged? I don't think we need extra awards to be honest.

This thread is stupid. This idea is stupid. You can't just pick certain maps which you think are 'good'.
What about my TWHL dedication map?
Why are you such an arrogant, cock-sucking, lame bastard? You suck and so do your maps.

Zing!
