I cry for you for choosing BT over a decent isp
576 is what your router reports to you, it isn't functioning at that speed in any way. Also you wont get 512 because of packet overheads, expect something about 476.
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-17 15:02:21 UTC Post #8098
And of course -100 'cos it's BT (nuff said)

windows actually says that it is connected at 576.2 and upstream only 256.4
m0p m0pIllogical.
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-17 15:06:13 UTC Post #8102
It will do. Windows is dumb, I believe it also shows 576.2 for single-line ISDN (actually 64K) :)

I think

Definitely does for 256/128 ADSL

yeah, i was windering about that. Windows says that the modem is on an isdn channel in device manager! Mmm, strange, well if I dont like it, I can always change to a different one straight away! What good 2mbit adsl providers are out there? I cant get cable around where i live! :(

Yep, Windows shows 41.333 on a 56 k when its actually 4 to about 5 kb/s :o

cry for me, i have a 56k that only runs at 29k
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-18 07:08:41 UTC Post #8204
29kb/S??? YOU KIDDING ME???
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-18 12:31:48 UTC Post #8221
my old 56k used to go 33.6k at the most. It originally went 44.5k though. Actually, BT came 3rd on the ADSLGuide(Clicky)! Nildram got 2nd and Eclipse got first! I got 1 ping in Return To Castle Wolfenstein MP and 4 on CS! Pretty nice eh! And yeah, just bing connected to the net takes up most of your accounts bandwidth! Last month (before i switched to ADSL) I used up so much time on my 56k that they threatened to cut me off if I done it again!!! They said other users had been getting really slow (I mean like 14k) connections cos of my "extreme" internet usage!!! HA!

Yeah, well done jobabob. Unless you were being sarcastic
You're a pretty confusin' guy ;)
Maybe you were just up early.
cry for me, i have a 56k that only runs at 29k
and then
29kb/S??? YOU KIDDING ME???
Kb/s = kilobits
KB/s = kilobytes

Note capitalisation. People don't bother usually, that's why other people get confused.

Point is that it's running at 29 kilobits - around 3.5K/s downstream probably. Sounds like my old 56K :(

Meh..

There are advantages to a modem that goes 4 k i l o b y t e s p e r s e c o n d

no modern virus would manage to upload itself in time ;)
lol
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-18 19:09:35 UTC Post #8267
yeah, ur more likely to get a virus on b/band cos it would download itself quicker! MSBLAST is actually a worm so it randomly selects an ip and attacks it!
