VenomFang speaking. This is a map of my house! You can literally shoot the computer I'm sitting at within the map. This is probably the most breakable map ever made for css. Also, the textures are from the real house, and there are 3d custom bump maps on the textures for added realism. There are light switches, too! Enjoy!

Its for CSS? Change the tag by the map to CSS, not HL.

Ill make sure to check this one out soon.

Never judge a map by a screenie Rowleybob.... :)

Cons:

The outside was BLAND! Nothing in the streets, no displacement grass, and the level just cuts off into the skybox!

The texture work was poor. Textures of different scales of the same texuture were next to eachother all over inside. One scaled to .15 others to .35! Stretched textures were everywhere. THe bricks outside were stretched horizontally, but not equally vertical.

Normal maps on the floor tile and walls were ok, but most of them had too high values, causing a "net" effect when viewed from afar.

THE FRAMERATE! As soon as you looked at the house you can enter frame rate drops from 125 to 15! There were no windows to see out of, so this was just poor map optimization, and no hint brushes!

Pros:

The inside was well done. Looked exactly like a house should be. decent brushwork, custom light model, all good.
Custom texures were clear, and nice looking on the inside.

Its too bad you didnt optimize, or do your texturing correctly, or add to the outside. The buildings outside you just copied/pasted all over......

3 stars, 4 if you fix the problems :)

"There were no windows to see out of" All the windows in the map are breakable. Also the map runs smoother than dust, turn your texture and model detail to full. Low detail settings cause lag when the map demands higher settings.
Commented 17 years ago2006-11-08 12:03:28 UTC Comment #13441
WHAT!? I run my settings on max all the time. Higher settings mean lower performance btw.

That makes no sense. Its just really poor map optimization. The windows could break, but there was shutters behind them. This SHOULD stop the vis leafs from being rendered, but the map was not optimized well, so it does not.

If you got rid of the outside completely, and maybe doubled the size of your house it would really be cool. THe custom textures are very good inside, I personally think the map would benefit alot more by making it completely inside. :)

You can shoot the shutters too, and jump in/out the windows.

"Low detail settings cause lag"

My computer sucks and I always use low detail, because of your comment I tried it on a higher deatil setting. My original average framerate was 4.05 fps. After increasing the detail to medium it dropped to 0.90 fps, therefore proving your comment to be false. (It didn't run at all on high detail)

"Low detail settings cause lag."

ah thats why all the players on bad computers have lag - they are just too stupid to put the details on maximum. of course! ~ lol

You guys may laugh at that but I experimented doing this, and at lower setting the lag is worse! Wierd ehh...
Commented 17 years ago2006-11-14 20:41:42 UTC Comment #13461
Really it might do it with some card types because they suck worse at running different types of DX or other code.

Take for example glass and water. They are able to run at DX7 and some render the DX7 texture by default on low setting. If you have a card that is horrible at running the DX7 but good at DX9 then you have yourself a bind since most games built for the card wont use DX7, I hope.

Also if he put func-detail on walls that devide the room its going to lag it like crazy.

Either way nice house, looks all fancy!

Kigrind, this is not a 5 star map. The outside was horrible, the FPS was horrible, the optimization was horrible. The inside was the only good thing. THis is in no way a 5 star map. 5 star maps are perfect. This is FAR from it. (no offense, its still good, but not 5 star good)

Learn how to rate a map.....

I could say the same about a few of you, rating my map a 2 star...
This doesn't look half bad, 3.5 = 4.

i like this map, great detail! and you must be rich! :)
Commented 17 years ago2006-11-30 16:52:13 UTC Comment #13585
I'm giving a 4, partly because of bias probably, but I think 4 is just.

Pros: New Content was well done, I liked the way breakable surfaces were created, not leaving any floating objects. The detail in the house is wonderful, thought a few more props in the kitchen might have been nice. Personally I don't care about optimization. If your computer can't run this map with 40 fps or more with all on high, you should go back to 1.6 until you upgrade. My computer was 300 dollars and runs this at 50 fps smooth inside and 100 fps outside. Over-all, I found almost no faults with the inside.

Cons: I didn't like the shutters, they were a good idea, but I think the map would have looked nicer without them. At the very least you should have made sure grenades didn't fly through them without dropping them. The outside, as was mentioned before, was poorly done. This map could have benefitted a LOT from some displacements on the grass, maybe even small amounts of it on the road. All the houses outside of yours were basically just big blocks with a building texture, no detail to them at all, it made the focus seem a little too centered on the house. I also would have liked to see a 3d skybox for this map.

To quote Habboi: 3.5 = 4.

ok u asked me to download this map while u wher in |AH| animal house server and unlike most in here i know shit bout mapping
but i agree with the majority u should ethier completely redo the outside or trash it altogether basicly made me think of a rich house in the middle a bunch of apartments and the ct's spawn in the middle of nowwhere but i acually like the windows and shutters i would add more entrie points if u keep the outside like maybe the front door or garage but u nailed it on the inside like the oueside was an after thought you threw together in five mins and i would take some of them tvs and make em blank i think will a little bit of work would be a good map oh ya one more thing next time not to base your whole map around a real place mix it up a little makes ppl like me jealous of rich ppl like you not that i'm mad
