This is likely to happen if you're running on an ATI Graphics Card. Thanks to them dropping OpenGL support in their latest drivers (anything above 7.11), you can't select anything in Hammer's 3D window.

Solution? Download the Thanks to MuzzleFlash for the info and files.

NOTE: Some newer cards may not support the older drivers, so if you know of any alternate solution - add it to this wiki!

If you have one of those newer cards like me , you can try another solution .

1 Right-Click on My computer :

2 Under the "Hardware Tab" click "Device Manager" :

3
Click on "Display Adapters" then click on your video card's name . After this , click "Disable" :

4 Depending on your windows configuration , you may or not have to restart the system :

I experienced poor quality in the 3D view and like 5-10 fps .... so this is not the solution for me , but try and see . It might work !

That's why Nvidia pwns ATI.

I liked my Radeon 9800 Pro while it lasted, but I am with Nvidia from now on.

Try this if it doesn't work. Place opengl32.dll in your Hammer folder.
EDIT: I put the link in the article.

I've tried both, but they won't work; my OS is Vista 32-bit. atioglxx.dll makes Hammer crash whenever I try and load a map, and opengl32.dll just refuses to start the thing up.

Dawley, I am having the same exact problem as you are. I am running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, and I have the ATi Radeon HD 4890 installed. I can't select anything in the camera (3D) view, and this is quite annoying.

If anyone can offer any other suggestions for those running Vista (or at least Vista 32-bit), please let us know. Thank you.

This would have been helpfull before I took it back and got a geforce.

The opengl32.dll file fixed the selection problem for me, but it lags really bad when moving around in 3D view. Running on a Vista 32-bit.
For now I'm just happy I can select properly in 3D view, but if anyone knows how to get rid of the lag it would be much appreciated if you let me know.

Maybe you have to update drivers of Graphics card :)
