Borrowed my uncle's 70-200/2.8L and 2x extender.

Had to shoot for the moon. The supermoon.

I should have done this from a tripod to have it more crisp, buy anyway here's the supermoon as seen by me(cropped):

Having seen the two photos, this is a confirmation that DiscoStu is from the southern hemisphere.

The moon rotates as it crosses the sky (or rather, it doesn't rotate, the sprite is fixed, so to speak). It was upside down compared to the picture I posted (like yours) when it was rising on the East, and it was like that as it was setting on the West. I have both photos, but I only posted the latter one. I don't think that's proof of anything other than the Earth's rotation.

The moon always keeps the same face relative to what point on earth you are, because it has a rotation period equal with the revolution one.

And you are photographing it from the southern hemisphere. If you don't believe me google "moon photographed from southern hemisphere" and then for northern one. You will see that the Tycho crater appears on the upper part of the moon for you, while for me it is on the bottom.

It's really not hard to understand. It's actually funny that you two jumped in the "speculative science" bandwagon without even looking clearly at the images tongue - :P.

I'm sure Discostu flipped his image right before uploading and posting it here, just for the fun of it.

You're reading too much into it. Really, I have both photos, I'll upload the other one. There is no conspiracy. I don't live in any hemisphere because the earth is flat.

Well, the Earth is roughly flat. Just in a spherical fashion.

Since the weather here is typically crap, I haven't actually seen the moon in about a month because of all the clouds.

I did however get a photo of the pixels of my tablet at ~500X magnification (iirc).

I found my old microscope, so I took it by carefully balancing the tablet on the platform and holding my phone up to the eyepiece. I'd probably be taking photos of everything through it if illuminating the subject wasn't such an issue.

Ha, not a bad idea at all. I had a toy microscope and a toy telescope, I *think* I may still have them somewhere. Probably hard to hold my camera to either's eyepiece though.

It is, Stu! How could I live without a smoke machine?!

It was my most carefully packed possession in the move, Tet Headcrab Basher - :crowbar:

In other news, the BBC was recently caught out inventing news that was bias towards the scaremongering No campaign for the upcoming Scottish vote. It is against the law and their own charter to be anything other than completely impartial, so we demonstrated against them. It was a great big party - doing protests the right way: Fun, safe and non-violent.
About 2500 people showed up. The BBC didn't report on it. Go figure. This is one of the most trusted worldwide news sources now caught red handed manipulating the news to suit the agenda of the right wing elite. Terrifying.

I'm coming here as a total newbie to the subject, unlike Satchmo who said in his journal that he studied Scotland's history, something I'll try too in the next weeks.

I'm intrigued by what are the consequences of this action, since it can have reverberations on an international level. First of all, will Great Britain be named The not so Great Britain? UK in not so UK?
Then, in a world that strives for unity, something that is a must in a century where we boast ourselves with space exploration and expeditions to Mars, how does this event fit into that perspective?

I know, there are other bigger problems in the world at this moment like the conflicts in Ukraine and the constant battles in Gaza.
It just makes me think, as an outsider...

When we will finally reach a common goal for pushing our human limits off Earth? Isn't it sad to know that 50 years ago the first man put his foot on the Moon, using computers slower than your common smartphone today? Where could we be today if nations were more united and governments less corrupt?

I might be a dreamer, but I'm trying to understand what the heck is happening in this world, when the path we must strive for is so obvious and we keep making childish mistakes.

This was my reason for being a NO supporter for so long. We should be striving for unity, not further separation.
However, it is the right wing elite in Westminster who my countrymen did not elect who are governing us. Their policies and actions are directly hindering progress towards a better, unified planet. Their priorities lie with the bankers and big corporations, not the betterment of mankind. Given that my country has a vast majority left-wing, liberal, green and rational populace, the fact we are governed by traditionalist right-wing elitists who we didn't elect is unacceptable. It is my dearest hope that an independent Scotland will set an example - politics can work. The corruption in government CAN be overcome and perhaps this will benefit the goals of unity. We are not separatists for nationalistic reasons, we are separatists for the right and ability to have a voice.

An hour ago I voted yes.
