Modern FPS games attempt to appeal to a bigger demographic by making their game simpler and easy to follow. With making it easier and not as much based on skill, it makes the gameplay more dull and repetitive and the only threats that do emerge are ones that are inherently frustrating, not in a good way.
So, yeah, that's how modern fps games are still fucking this up.
