I do agree with most of Blitz's post. But do we have official confirmation he was depressed as opposed to having some other condition? I dunno, I just find it hard to comprehend that someone depressed to the point where they would take their life would go out of their way to bring a bunch of people down with them.

Okay, new information means my post is partially incorrect. The shooter does not appear to have used an automatic weapon, but multiple pistols. And this is the 3rd big, widely reported US shooting in under 6 months. There have been others that didn't get so much coverage.

It might help if they restricted the forms of weapons available a bit better. You can't get a semi-auto SPAS-12 in the US, but it seems like it's easy to get a full-auto AR-15. There'd still be black market shit, but it would still decrease the amount of crazy people running around with assault weapons.
Getting help for the mentally ill would be really nice too.
Fucking terrible that this keeps happening, that's the 3rd big US shooting in under 6 months.

"Now Archie, but doesn't come here anymore" Wait, what? Why? I noticed he hasn't been around for a bit, but you mean this is permanent? And he never even posted to explain why/say goodbye? D:

I've been trying to get into the habit of doing pushups and situps while waiting for my computer to boot. ...But I'm not very active or fit. I wish there was someplace around here I could do Parkour on/with. I want to try that out. I imagine I would get fit very quickly doing that. Or injured.

2much: It's partially about psychological horror; taking a familiar and safe environment and warping it. Dark environments like sewers do not seem safe in the first place.
Sadly, most horror games rely on dark environments, low ammo, and jump-scares. Which results in annoyance and startling, not actual fear. It's quite hard to make real fear in a game, I think, and basically impossible to do it in such a way that allows a second playthrough to be as tense. I'll admit, I don't have Urby's nonchalant "yawn" attitude to horror games, but they tend to be more annoying than scary, and never worth a second playthrough.
Actually, come to think of it, the scariest moments I've had in games come from non-horror games like Fallout 3. Most of these times I've found myself thinking either "Oh my god oh my god I'm gonna die I'm gonna die oh my god ..." or "HO-LEE SHIT!!!"
EDIT: I just remembered that I played Amnesia at a friend's place once. That was pretty good. But more for the lore and sanity elements, rather than the "horror" itself.

One thing you could try to make the pipe pile look less silly but keep it there as cover is just 'roll' the top pipe off the pile and have it lying next to it. That way if the player is on it, there's more foot space for their model.

The difference between the orangemapped version and the near-final version is huge! I almost can't believe they came from the same vmf! Looking great, keep it up!

Having seen the polls at roughly 149:154 (Obama:Romney) last night, I went to bed with a slight sense of dread. Good thing the swing states knew who to vote for.

I've never used ctrl-e, but it sounds useful, so I'll probably try to memorize it and use it frequently. Also never used quickhide, but I only ever paste special and I tend to overuse the cordon tool on my maps because I compulsively playtest and don't want the fact that I haven't finished a room to prevent me from doing lighting passes on it.

Yeah, though his hat seemed just a bit more floppy/droopy than the first few images. I'm not sure if I should be scared or not. I guess not, since I gave him the finger and lived. Really creepy that that's a common thing, though.

Not sure how I can get my hands on it, but a friend was tossing around the idea of going to his place and playing some Minecraft on the weekend, so maybe I can leech off his connection while I'm there and play it when I get home. I'd give him a copy of the installer if he wanted it, of course.
Then I'll play it as much in one go as I can without skipping meals or losing sleep, and savor all of it. Then I'll play it again.

I leave for three days, and this happens. Also, I think I'm calling BS on Xen not being in. I think (and hope) that it will be a surprise inclusion in the release.

I guess I am confused a bit. I am most of the time, though.
I did set the images to be doublebuffered, it helped but didn't eliminate the problem. Of course, it was one of the first games I ever coded from scratch, so I guess problems like that are to be expected.

It's 6.0, (from VB Express '08) but according to Wikipedia it can be converted/upgraded to VB.NET. It would seem it either doesn't do this automatically, or there is some different method from the one we used in class, because I've never come across 3D support, and trying to use moving 2D raster images with transparency leads to visual glitches if the background is comprised of images as well. Performance drops are also present when you try to add more than a few moving objects at once (killing them when they get offscreen) as the game I made in grade 9 can attest to.

Visual Basic, which I learned in school. It's not good at heavy lifting, it can't render even sprites, but it is simple to work with for things like this. And yeah, the headlines aren't 100% random, they use the pseudo random ".next" function to select sets of phrases (defined in my code as either nouns or actions) then put them in one of 4 or 5 (can't remember which offhand) headline structures.
Not sure why I included only Dimbark. Was contemplating adding Archie and Urby as well. I knew Dimbark would react well to it, I guess.
Scotch: I did have a grammar disclaimer, but it seems from Dimbark's screenshot that it either disappeared on the final compile and I didn't notice, or it only shows up on WinXP.

I would be going to uni, except I didn't get my applications in and I need another course credit for the programs I'm looking at. So I'm going back to my high school for a semester to pick that up as well as a couple of extra classes that interest me.
What worries me is that, since the province is getting rid of the ability for students to go back after grade 12, other, younger, students won't get the same opportunity. Which is stupid, because I literally NEED this credit, and I'm sure others will be in the same boat down the line.
It's been a while since I've seen an update on SMJ. Good to see it's still going strong!
Keep me supplied with links when a new post comes out, and I'll keep watching.

I then decide its a great idea to jump off the roof while nobody is looking so I can run back inside and surprise them all.
"I can see where this is going..."
I lept.
"Bad idea, I'm guessing?"
I stuck the landing.
"Oh, alright."

My sympathy to you, sir. Also, apparently I completely missed the first line of the journal. :
