in Windows 7 multi-touch Autodesk demo! Post #257905
Something like this will surely open the doors to a lot of people not normally in to 3D modeling. And let's face it, Autodesk products are not exactly for newbie's, and yet with this Windows 7 multi-touch technology and some practice, it could very well be, but to be really sure, we will just have to wait and see if it's really that practical. This gives a whole new meaning to "hands-on". This could actually be the start of a new era in the 3D modeling world.

in Windows 7 multi-touch Autodesk demo! Post #257894
Autodesk recently demonstrated an upcoming version of what I believe is 3D Max, taking advantage of the multi-touch feature that will be found in the next, new version of Microsoft Windows, known for now as "Windows 7". On this video you will see zooming in & out, rotation, polygon deformation and more using just screen touch.

Autodesk's video demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8O_rQh7Dbc4

Gee, I wonder if Hammer would work with multi-touch.....

Max can import the dxf from hammer, but its ugly. very ugly. It'd be better to start over.
I was also going to say that the .rmf file can be opened up by Crafty, then export it to the .obj format. I am sure most good 3D modeling apps out there can import the .obj format. Now, unless you are looking for something low poly, then I would go with what Rimrook is offering.

Hey, anybody here remember back in 2005 (I think), as an effort to control music piracy, Sony started to install this secret, trojan like root kit on some of their music CD's called "DRM"? That really created a storm of fury on people, not to mention lawsuits. Sony was forced to do a big recall of the affected (or infected) CD's and do a public apology. For reference, go here: http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=2092

Well, this relative of mines that started to work recently part-time at this "Sony Store" near where I live, told me that his manager suggested to him that Sony might release a newer, more powerful version of the DRM again, but this time for their future Blu-ray movie titles.

You would think Sony learned their lesson on how bad an idea is to put spyware on their music CD's, but now they "might" do it again in the near future, but this time with movies? I smell a boycott......

Well Tito, look at the Antivirus scan, just 2 of the most famouse found it as virus. If the best antivirus doesn't find it, I doubt a download manager would do it.
Okay then. Try this other thing concerning the registry: "RegShot" is a small utility that allows you to quickly take a snapshot of your registry and then compare it with a second one ? done after doing system changes or installing a new software product. The changes report can be produced in text or HTML format and contains a list of all modifications that have taken place between Snapshot1 and Snapshot2. In addition, you can also specify a folder (with subfolders) to be scanned for changes as well. You can download from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/regshot

And there's no irony here. I downloaded a program which was a virus. Ok I got a virus, but I know what the real program does, if not, how can I know if it's real or not?
Some download managers can actually scan for any possible viruses to files being downloaded, and tell you if they are corrupted or not. See if you can get one of those.

One thing I want to mention about PC security is besides the obvious measures like having windows firewall on and a good anti-virus program like already put forward on this thread, is to also have the "User Account Control" turned on. I can't remember if Windows XP has it, but I know for sure Vista does have it. This security feature is found in your User Accounts folder under Control Panel. By having the UAC on, your PC will be protected by any unauthorized changes, like viruses, trojans, malware and others will do to your system.

Moral of the story is: never underestimate someone who doesn't know how to use a computer properly.
I agree. Viruses and all the other nasty rogue crap like it does not necessarily have to come from these so called "bad websites". It can come from just about any site, anywhere. And people who doesn't know how to use a computer properly as you put it, are the most vulnerable to getting infected.

Here is a quick list of the type of sites you have to be careful of when downloading from, or just even visiting (some are no-brainers):

Porn sites

Warez sites

Bittorrnt sites

Websites from certain countries (Nigeria, Russia, China, Malaysia and a few others)

Any personal blog site that promises you too much and sounds too good.

Any online store that claims to accept credit cards and/or PayPal at first and then when you go to the checkout page, it tells you that their credit card or PayPal system is "off line" and they want you to instead pay them through "Western Union" or a bank wire transfer. - BAD IDEA!!!

These kind of websites that I just mentioned are more often than not loaded with malicious scripts running in the background, and ready to infect your PC, like it or not.

snapfiles looks too useful to pass, i'm checking it out myself
The best thing that I like about Snapfiles.com is that they actually review and grade each and everyone of their listed software from a scale of 1 to 5 stars. They also accompany their grading with a brief explanation which includes the pro's and con's of the program in question. Every type and class of software is in their own category very neatly, but best of all, it is all in two main sections: Freeware and Shareware.

Let me get this straight, it's called "XPantispyware2009"?

Oh man, it sure sounds to me like one of those "malware" programs, they are actually worse than viruses! They are basically trojans on steroids. They pretend to be "good anti-spyware cleaning programs", but in reality they are the worse shit imaginable you could have on your PC! As for that recovery tool you are looking for to get back some of your deleted data, there might be hope for you just yet.

There is this site called "Snapfiles", they have pretty much everything you could ever need. Here is a direct link to their "Data Recovery Tools" category on the freeware section: http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwdatarecovery.html

Also, if you are looking to get a good, free virus, trojan & malware remover, then you can start here: http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/security/fwantispy.html

Indeed.
Fairly impressive tech there, but it seems like a bit of a gimmick to me.

Might just be that I love accuracy and close-up fine tuning of everything I build.
I feel the same way too. But you have to remember, this program is still in it's early stages, so there's no telling on how well it could shape up just yet. Now, the official website has this to say about the further development plans on VideoTrace:
We're currently developing further modelling interactions to increase both the power and flexibility of the modelling process. We're working on interactive dense reconstruction, organic shapes, de- and re-linghting for model-based video editing, deformable objects and dynamic scenes, amongst other ideas.

A friend of mines that's an AutoCAD instructor at a local trade school in my home town just told me he might start doing some consultation work soon for some IT firm in Australia called "Australian Centre for Visual Technologies". Anyway, my friend told me that one of the products this company is in the middle of creating is a new 3D modeler which operates in a way I have not seen before. After watching a You Tube video on how this 3D modeler called "VideoTrace" works, I was just simply amazed on how this type of 3D modeling looks so easy to do, yet delivers some spectacular results. Now, this VideoTrace program is still in Beta development, so it's bound to get a lot better before it's full release. I am not going to say much more now, as seeing is believing, better to see the demonstration of VideoTrace with your own eyes:

VideoTrace You Tube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vda2RAEuW_g

VideoTrace official web page: http://www.acvt.com.au/research/videotrace/

Note: This kind of reminds me of an old 3D modeler I used to have about 10 years ago called "Canoma" from a now defunct company called MetaCreations, where it let you create 3D models out of scanned photos or drawings.

That's just a weak excuse for cashing in on a dying franchise. Who ever thought it was cool to let Sub-Zero fight Superman needs to get some serious slapping in his face. The game hasn't even got the blood and gore Mortal Kombat is so well-known for.
That's why I put a "maybe" on it, I still have doubts about that game.
However, as always, this is down to personal opinion so who the fuck cares right? Play what you like, nobody has the power to tell you not to.
Nice comeback,....sounds good to me. I will buy that. Have a nice day, Urbanebula.

It all comes down to money of course, some nerds are willing to pay 4 times as much money each month so naturally it's allowed by Blizzard :P
Of course Blizzard is going to allow multiboxing, it's in their best financial interest. They know once people start confronting these multiboxers more frequently, the honest, single character player out there will have no choice but to also become a multiboxer, and therefore remain competitive on equal terms with the other multiboxing players. It will be like an arms race, the best player will not be decided by who has the best gaming skills, but by who has the most simultaneous accounts. And who will benefit the most out of this? Why good'ol Blizzard of course. CACH'ING - CACH'ING - CACH'ING.......

Its called duel-boxing, its a completely legal hack as far as WoWHQ are concerned due to the fact you need to pay for more than one account. The hack allows you on any computer with any number of screens to run two separate windows and control all players at once with a program like autohotkey.

I just came across this story, and it just blew my mind away. It's just amazing on how much time some people have on their hands, and in this case, money too. I know Warcraft gamers are one of the most loyal players to their game, but damn,....even this case has to be a bit extreme, even to Warcraft standards. Anyway, here's what I found:
Gamer juggles over 30 Warcraft characters
Meet the mad king of Azeroth.
By Ben Silverman - Yahoo games

Think you play too much World of Warcraft? Compared to "Prepared," you don't. In a case of game addiction gone officially bananas, gaming blog Joystiq reports on what is surely the biggest Warcraft fan of them all. Known only under the moniker "Prepared," the gamer plays a stunning 36 World of Warcraft accounts on 11 different computers...simultaneously. Stemming from a desire to manage raids - large-scale gameplay sessions that typically require the teamwork of multiple players - all by himself, the die-hard gamer seems undaunted by both the financial and lifestyle commitments to such a geeky endeavor. "It costs me exactly $5711 in subscription costs per year with 36 accounts on the 6 month pay schedule," he writes. "Not bad considering I'm looking at it like it's a hobby and there are more expensive hobbies out there than World of Warcraft." Like yachting, perhaps. And despite the downturn in the economy, Prepared can't wait to get his hands on the upcoming Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. "I lan to be at the store when it opens and will purchase 36 copies of it. With tax, it should be about $1500 for all of them. "Word of Prepared's over-the-top addiction comes on the heels of the annual Blizzcon Convention, a fan-oriented celebration of the games created by Warcraft publisher Blizzard.
Here is what the gaming setup of this "Prepared" looks like:

I think I will take a risk and put my two cents here. One thing I have notice over the past few years is that some of these big computer brands like Dell, HP and others are not including a physical Windows operating system disk (or recover disk) with their packaged systems. They are instead shipping the computers with their hard drives configured with two separate partitions. One partition, the main one, has the installed operating system all ready to go. The other second, smaller partition has a sort of "virtual disk" version of a normal Windows recover CD. From this "system recover partition" is where you initiate a reformatting of the main partition to re-install everything. I know it sounds a bit confusing, but hey, that's how HP's tech support explained it to me on how to do it when reformatting my PC. Dell does more or less the same thing too.

Oh yea. My guess is, people will start reacting when it actually happens, just like with everything else. But then again, it could be just all bullshit.
