First off use the edit button unless you want to get shafted by the mods. Never double post.

Secondly read the tutorials concerning scripted_sequences.

OMGROFLMAO.

How did I miss this thread!?

Rather disturbing how the title of the thread is "Most Hated Holiday Tradition" and the second page is focused on "Hairy Bum Love." What holiday are we fucking discussing here!?!?

BTW just so we're clear that when I say "Hairy bum love" I'm not being discriminatory either. I have nothing against homosexuals. A few of my colleagues are gay and they're are some of the funniest people I've met.

Just pulled up these videos on you tube and It reminded of a thread I meant to create a while ago.

My favourite comedian has to be Lee Evans. His dedication and the energy he puts into what he does is incredible. If you never have seen this brilliant man perform watch these clips.

in Descriptive Writing (Give it a go) Post #205628
I felt like writing something but my imagination is sleeping at the moment so I have written about a section from HL's Office Complex chapter. I might consider writing this from the start of the game to finish which will obviously take a lot of time but I find its the best way to excersise your descriptive abilities without having to run short on imagination which is the main killer of most of my projects.

"As gunfire echoed through the halls and the distant calls from foreign beings chilled the spines of all that heard them, one man was drifting silently between the rooms. He passed many of the dead and dying and despite being of there form he continued his advance, refusing to acknowledge them. He rounded a corner and saw one of the many creatures that was stalking the halls. It winced as he strode forward through the doorway, his tall figure casting a deformed shadow across the walls. The critter sprinted on its tiny legs and vanished into an open vent. The man didn't stop. He headed towards a fire door, the access bar on his side alone, and peered out through the small window. A figure approached from the other side, his weapon dripping with the yellow puss of his unearthly enemy's. The men stared at one another for a second, each of them figuring out the true purpose of the other. The first man figured out everything he needed to know within seconds and he brushed the away the dust that was gathering on his idle form. He turned away from the door and continued walking, leaving the orange suited figure pondering on the opposite side of the door."

Do you recognise this moment?

Give it a go. Write a descriptive paragraph about anything. A section from HL, or any other game or something in a dream. Post it here and see what everyone thinks.

(or not, its up to you.)

Aux power is not included in HL1 because you can't sprint and your torch uses a seperate battery. I think the breath in HL1 was time based. I'd say the only solution was coding but then you couldn't have real water anywhere else in the map.

Agreed. DIII was the biggest pile of shite that I've ever played. It was ugly, blocky, the story was cack, the creatures were lamer than their 2D counterparts and featured the most pointless use of a physics system ever (seeing as there was no real use for it and all the decent sequences (well...crap sequences) were scripted.

Left 4 Dead looks decent enough to play but with a max of 8 players per server I imagine the chances of getting into a decent server would be few and far between.

A new mod for HL1 set within the KinetiX universe far from the safe confines of Neonite City and the protection of Urbanebula Technical. KinetiX is still in development. This is simply a means of testing my Texture Art abilities.

Long ago, before the fateful discovery of KinetiX in the Urb Tech HQ courtyard, a large mass of man made structures were picked up by a satilite. These were actually the upper most structures of a small lab complex which was constructed with the study of geology in mind. The base cut all communications with the main HQ in Neonite without warning. When a search team was sent out to the site the base was nowhere to be seen.

The satilite image of the base taken a few days later showed that somehow the base was still in its original location, only much deeper underground. Whats disturbing is the fact that most of the lab sections are still fully operational and data is still being entered into the mainframe.

It is uncertain who is entering the data into the system. The only thing thats certain is that the information recieved by the HQ has nothing to do with any of the original projects that were underway at the facility on the day it went silent.

Sending out messages across the base the Urb Tech team made desperate attempts to contact the original team that occupied the base. Waking up in an unfamiliar place to the beep of your Urb Tech Personnal Messaging Device (UTPMD) you read the text aloud to yourself. "Attention all Base 12 Personnel. Something has been discovered deep within that complex and we want to know what."

in Euphoria (the future of gaming physics) Post #205240
Imagine the HL3 engine with the posibilities that PhyX and Euphoria are presenting us with.

Combine are shooting at the player from a crude wooden bridge placed between two apartment roofs overhead. The player sees a water tank on one of the roofs and lauches a nade at the supports. The tank crashes down and water sprays all over the fuckin place throwing a few of the soldiers off the bridge to their doom. The tank crashes into the bridge, which splinters into thousands of pieces. One remaining soldier dives towards the nearest building as the bridge comes down and hangs helplessly from a window ledge. The player aims and launches another nade...

Sweet!

Right now KinetiX is using HL2 mp3's converted to wavs but their old and dull. I want to create my own tracks for this mod. So...

I have a few questions concerning music in HL1.

1.) What is the best and cheapest (even free) software for the creation of music.

2.) What is the best way to implement this music into a mod without coding an MP3 player into it? Coverting to wavs?

It demonstrates the perfectly smooth actions performed by several objects with different physical properties. So if you are like me and like your games with mind-blowing physical special effects watch this video. Then start getting very excited about next summer. :)
