Canada doesn't ever DO anything. They just sit up there taking up the world's space. Canada should go to war with asia or something or invent a new cheese or declare a new leader or SOMETHING.

I'm currently working on a HL1 minimod. I don't know what to name it, but it takes place on a xen asteroid a long time after the Black Mesa incident. You are gordon and you are new to a research facility on the asteroid. That's all I'm going to reveal, but it is like HL in the normal---then---disaster series of events.

Before you go crazy with trying to make complex architecture and terrain/walls/banks, practice it on little, un important things like:

Try to make models of your favorite medieval weapons. I have perfect renditions of 32.

Make static objects like stained glass windows, suits of armor( really hard ) good looking tables, lights anthing but main parts of the level.

Once you have the hang of VM techniques then go and build your snazzy walls, floors ceilings and support structures.

in New Competition Post #89169
It's not as easy as "Add the competition to the site." Atom/(7th?) has to manually add the info which contains the idea of the last winner. He has to make a change to the announcement at the top right corner and make a link there, plus make space for the entry uploads. It sounds like it wouldn't take long or be hard, but it is.

in Force shield... Post #89103
You could make the turret go THROUGH part of a shield, or make a hole in a big see through forcfield wall that the barrel just fits through. The entire wall is bullet proof, but since the turret bullets start shooting PAST the wall, you might be ok.

Hey lucky I use IE and to use the shoutbox, you have to set your security settings to "medium". Just make sure that when your done with TWHL, you reset it back to "high" if you had it at that before because some sites have baaaaad stuff. Also make sure cookies are at least medium high.

Not that I really care about ratings, but I really believe that you should have to leave a comment with your rating. It would mean lots of work for atom, but then ratings would have a meaning, and you would know who rated your map.

Eventually....eventually.

I just rebuilt my computer and re-installed everything that has to do with HL mapping. I open hammer and set it up to just the right settings and everything (I know they are right). When I create a new map I click on one of the editing windows and Hammer will get one of those (Hammer has encountered a problem and needs to close) messages and Hammer then crashes. I just got the latest nvidia drivers too so I don't know what the problem is.

in weapon damage Post #87152
In the main pak0.pak file there is a text file named skill.cfg or skill.txt I can't remember. Copy it into your valve directory. Open it and you will see health and damage values for monsters. Scroll down and you will find the damage values for weapons. Change them to what you want and then save it. Wala and you have new damage values. Make sure you make a backup of the old skill.txt.

There is a four story building. On the top floor lives a guy who likes to carve things out the window. Below him is a guy who likes to pee out the window. Below him is a guy who likes to paint things green out the window, and below him is a guy who likes to eat pickles out the window.

One day they are all out doing their thing out the window at once. The carver droppes his knife, cuts off the urinating guys wang, it falls down and get's painted green by the painter, and the it falls in the jar od pickles the pickle-eater is eating. "Man, that one was in there a long time!" the pickle-eater said as he ate the, um, organ.

I still don't get it Seventh. :)

A very wealthy man had two sons. As do we all, he grew old, and he knew his time was short. He called his sons to him, saying he couldn't decide which of the two sons would get his money when he died. He would determine the son to get his riches by a race. The two sons were set forth the next morning for Kaddisht, a town some twent miles away. The son whose camel was the last to arrive at the finish line would be accounted his father's wealth.

When the sun arose, it found the two men ready for the race, dressed for travel and mounted upon their best camels. Their father gave them his blessing and wished them well, and the race was on. Each son employed every method he could think of to stay behind the other, while the beasts grew restless and the sun sank low behind the desert. By the end of the day, the two men had gone less that 100 paces!

Deeply troubled, the two brothers took shelter at an inn. There they shared wine and discussed their troubles. Each man was wealthy by his own labors and each had business affairs and families to tend. The task their father had given them had no clear end in sight. In pursuing their inheritance, the men were in very real danger of perishing in the desert that lay between the inn and the town of Kaddisht. The men told the barkeep their dilemma. After a moments thought, the barkeep told them two words of advice.

The next morning the brothers both set out for Kaddisht, but this time they rode as fast they could. Tell me, what were the two words the barkeep had told them?

in How do you make a Force Field Post #50412
It's so easy! You have to use a certain texture. Go into the textures and in the filter box paste in:
+0~GENERIC86R
Then use that texture for your forcefields. All you need to do is make them transparent like the first couple of posts above.

in max patches WILL NOT go away Post #50277
If the player can't see faces of brushes on the map, increase all of those face's texture scale to 10.00 or higher. This will lower the patches used in the map. A skybox will also up the patches a whole bunch. If you're using a skybox but can't get rid of it use the above technique with the underside of the map.

If you have the Zoner's Half-Life wad use the Null texture instead to eliminate those faces altogether.

All mentioned on Tommy's...
