I should get a cheap extra monitor some day. Assuming my laptop even has a VGA port.
It would be nice to have Hammer open on one monitor and reference/inspiration images on the other.

For me it was always there from the start. It's actually the main reason I had for mostly staying with GoldSrc, as I always hated using the scrollwheel to zoom. It always messed up the spacing of the gridlines.
There may be some way to fix it, perhaps by messing with the .exe file. I assume that's where cursor images for programs are stored.

But you can get optical mice with scrollwheels for less than €10. Admittedly, every single one of those that I've ever used has been absolute bollocks and there's more times where the cursor goes crazy than not, but at least the scroll wheel works. Usually.

Bruce could have invented it. The term 'independant invention' is used when somebody comes up with an idea that has been done before, but not to their knowledge.
As an example, a while ago I was interested in gauss guns and electomagnetic projectile propulsion, things like that. I also had a side project, a bet to design a plausible flying motorbike. For this design, I needed some type of electric motor that would operate on the rim of a wheel, rather than the axis. Using the information I had on gauss guns, I came up with a design of motor which did this. I told my uncle and he told me the same thing had been invented in the 80's or 90's by a man named John Bedini. Apparently it's more efficient than a regular motor. I'm still pretty pissed about that.

An off topic rant there, apologies.

I've never had any desire to drink coffee. I'm kind of surprised, if anyone has a caffeine addiction it's me. I've literally drank about 5 litres of Coke a week for the past four years. Unhealthy, I know.
Although I do like tea, although I haven't had much opportunity to try different blends. I remember I got a set of different teas for a birthday maybe ten years ago, but other than that I haven't had many types. I distinctly remember disliking Earl Grey and Lady Grey though. My favourites were English and Irish Breakfast.

  • A 2TB external HD
  • A 32GB iPod Touch
  • An iPod docking station
  • A box set of DVD's featuring Tom Hanks
  • The Godfather (book)
  • A book about the mafia
  • A USB PS2 style control pad for Windows (GTA:SA just doesn't feel right with a keyboard)
  • Two shampoo/deodorant sets
And a gas mask I got for myself. I had wanted to get one for my brother, and I saw I guy selling two at a reasonable price on eBay, so I got one for myself.

in HD Failure Post #301827
Well, my HD basically failed last night. Just a few minutes after talking to Joe about all the unfinished maps I have and how I should back them up. Windows just crashes and I get a warning when I turn it on not to use it at all except to attempt backups. While now that I'm home I have access to the 2TB HD that I'm getting for Christmas, I want to maximize the amount of time I have to attempt backup. I was planning on putting Linux onto a memory stick and then booting from that, so as to not put undue stress on the HD by running off that. Also, it would help if my accessing my HD wasn't reliant on Windows functioning correctly. I just wanted to ask those who know more about this kind of thing than I do, does this sound like a good plan?
I just really want to back up my maps, the WAD files I have, my Minecraft save (I put too much work into my house to lose it) and a few other minor things. Not much, but I just don't know how much time I have until it fails for good.
Anyone have any better suggestions?

in Dreams Post #298697
If you jumped out the window, that would explain the red smear on the pavement below.

I was up for about an hour or so in the morning, then I went back to sleep. I had a rather lucid dream, although I can't remember what it was about. All I remember is that unlike most times when I become aware of the fact that I was dreaming, I could say and do things without acting it out with my body and waking myself up. I just needed to be patient and not push too hard.
Since this was the first time I could control anything, I didn't want to push too hard and wake myself up, so I just let the dream progress naturally, giving a small push here and there, having a conscious choice in what I said to people. It was quite interesting overall.

[Edit]I had a series of interesting dreams last night. The first, a quite vivid dream, I had a pocketwatch that could turn back time. I skipped backwards in time a few times, along the way picking up an asian man who wanted to see how the clock worked. After a few time jumps, the watch sprang apart, evidently overstressed. We were stuck in the fifties, on a beach. I picked up all the pieces, and with nothing better to do until I managed to figure out how to put it back together, I wandered into the nearest building. It was a church, very sparsely decorated like a Protestant church, but the priest was doing a Catholic style Tridentine Mass. The churchgoers were segregated, the regular people separated from the students of a local school for the developmentally disabled. The priest made an insulting comment about them, and then the dream ended.

I had another dream, all I remember is that there was a dark red pool of some extremely viscous fluid, near the entrance to a cave. I cut my wrist and let the blood fall into it. I assume I had to do this to make something happen, perhaps so I could pass into the cave.

The last dream, I was on a desert island with some friends, and it was blocky like Minecraft. One of my friends managed to spawn toast blocks. I was confused.

I would make a tutorial, but I wouldn't know what to put in it that couldn't easily be found in other tutorials. Most of my time would be spent finding good reference images anyway. One piece of advice I can give is it's easier to model things if you look for images of some of the individual major parts rather than the thing as a whole.

For example if I searched for 'M16' or something similar, I would likely get loads of pictures of it used in games (from the same angle), or somewhat blurry pictures of the gun in the hands of a soldier.
If I searched for 'AR-15 upper receiver', or 'M16A1 Handguard', I would get much more detailed pictures, generally closeups in sharp focus taken by people who are selling such things. I suppose that's most of the help I can give really.
Not really the best example, as searching for M16 seems to give some pretty good images. Even so, searching for those parts does give some somewhat better images.

Also, I made some more sights:
