Check the Monitor via the context menu from the Steam icon, and don't bother trying to play before it's finished. Try running your map from the console, too.

Try restarting, closing all other programs (i.e. GCFScape). Is Steam on an NTFS drive and are you an administrator?

Your avatar does say "proud cat", doesn't it? I'm not at all sure that it agrees though, it should probably be (can't type Cyrillic here 'cos it breaks) 'gordee' not 'gordo'. Gordo looks neuter to me, and then you have a masculine cat ? unless I am sadly mistaken.

We won't be doomed, just a lotta people'll feel pretty stupid having bought restrain?d PCs for too much money.

Read the Steam tutorial, particularly the last part. Check the setup tutorials too, that looks set up wrong on the whole.

Try targetting both. You may switch the target of a path_corner and then it branches differently when the train reaches it.

Okay, benchmarks with my new laptop.

AMD Athlon 64-M 3000+
512MiB DDR2700
ATI Radeon 9700 Mobility (64MB)
15.4" TFT (at 1280x800)

First test:

Model detail: medium
Texture detail: medium
Water reflects: world
AA: Off
AF: 4x
VSYNC: off

40.4fps
43.2fps

Second test

Model detail: high
Texture detail: high
Water reflects: all
AA: 4x
AF: 8x
VSYNC: off

22.9fps
23.6fps

Now in 720x480, on the settings just above:

46.6fps
49.6fps

Very nice, methinks. Shame there's no res. in the middle.

Use an env_beam, and have the start and end targets as two seperate func_trains. Don't forget to include origin brushes for the trains or it won't work.

Check the Entity Guide and Glossary on the left if you don't get it.

An exponential decay curve, in fact, like this. See, the longer it goes on, the less it goes down by, so it never quite reaches nothing (well, I imagine you could argue it does, but hey).

The Greek letter lambda (λ) is also used in physics to refer to wavelength. Plus, it looks like an 'h' and an 'l' back-to-back (maybe they fitted the name around that).

N.B.: make sure the dimensions you specify in the <img> tag are exactly the same as the actual image size, or omit them. They're good for slow-connection people though (their browsers know where stuff's gunna be before it's loaded them).
