in compile not working Post #144092
If Hammer appears to stop responding during a compilation, it hasn't stopped compiling, it's just a bug. Leave it running, never cancel it.

Could be because Hammer can't copy to folders with @ in the name. I used to have that trouble, until I started compiling by hand. Set up Hammer to copy the BSP to your desktop or somewhere, and copy the file to your CS maps directory by hand. Oh just one question, why are you copying it to your dedicated server? Wouldn't it be easier to copy it to your Counter-Strike maps folder for testing, plus, you should always name your maps correctly with de_ or cs_.

PS: Please take note of my wonderful grammar and follow suit.

For fuck sake, stop creating so many console threads. Please learn to map, otherwise, get the hell out. You are an ignorant little tard, 4thgen, this is a MAPPING site, not a site about childish little game consoles.

And for the record, my first console was a NES.

Oh crap forgot to explain the death chamber. Basicly, it's a chamber, with a powerful trigger_hurt which is accessible through the duct system. It's inside the wall of the reactor room and has a thick unbreakable window. It can be triggered by the other players using a button marked "vent" next to the display window. Once triggered, a steam sprite will trigger, as well as the trigger hurt in the chamber. Also, everybody inside the ducts will be affected by the trigger hurt, although not as badly, due to the "superheated steam". It could make for some interesting gameplay.

I'm finally getting off my lazy ass and getting down to some mapping. This is a medium-size deathmatch map for HL1, with some neat features. There are plenty of traps, like the death chamber (which is activated by the other players, I'll explain it in a sec), and duct vents in hazardous areas. I've drawn up a rough plan, although I am adding another section under the reactor which is not on paper yet. I'm trying to have as little dead ends as possible, and as many routes/loops as possible so this new section will add to the gameplay a bit. You may notice lots of duct routes, which sometimes do not work in DM maps in my opinion, but I'm putting them to good use. Here is the current paper plan of the map, you may not understand it properly, but, there are 2 levels, upper and lower. Look at the key on the left to help you work it out.

Note these screenies are very early, and may change quite alot in the release of the map. Current development status is about 5% complete, fyi.

To all Steam bashers, please STFU. Steam is buggy/slow for YOU. I use Steam, and it's fine. Game/platform updates are flawless and utilize my connection very well. If you complain about slow updates, it's either because your computer, and/or you connection is terrible. The interface hasn't got any bugs, in my experience, and bugs in the games themselves are usually driver related (for example, the latest ATi Catalyst drivers), OS related or sometimes hardware related. The only user created errors in HL2 I have experienced are due to exceeding entity limits in Gmod, or errors in homemade maps.

The new interface is much more polished than the old one, has no bugs so far. And while it's rather bloated, surely even the stupidest user could work out how to use the narrow version of the games list.

I'd say a pipeline with 15 stages or so, and a reasonable clockspeed would probably be the best combination, but it also depends on the rest of the architecture.

You really want a balance of pipeline and clockspeed. For example, the Dothan has a really short pipeline, and quite a low clockspeed, and performs well in alot of applications, but sucks at others, such as video encoding, and as a server. But, the Prescott has a really long pipeline, and high clockspeed and performs well in video encoding, yet it sucks at other stuff such as gaming.

7th, if you plan to use x86 for server use, or specific apps, such as video/audio encoders, sometimes higher clockspeed helps more than short pipelines. And as you probably know, the shorter the pipelines, the possibility of high clockspeed decreases.
