my view on steam:

I had dial up and went from HL2's relese to 5 days ago without using anything but offline mode.

I got DSL, and updated everything, and now love steam.

im sure valve will have something in place so when they shut down steam becomes automated. like a final patch that unlocks anything you try to install

torus trooper is PC, and its free, and on extreme dificulty you can go at a remarkably well simulated 9000km/h

partially.

Im at 50 normal and 23 extreme and am currently working on beating (if its even possible) the game on normal.

and I've done it, I got up to something in the 10000's for more then a few seconds.

my record also seems to be 1-10 on extreme. and i've been wondering if its point streak or level streak.

I've maxed out at about 10000, im not sure if the game is capped at 9999 in extreme mode though, because i've gotten really close to the 10000 mark before dying. you eyes really go crazy after a while though. I played for 2 hours strait and when I quit I still felt like I was spinning down the tunnel.

im on level 34 or something in normal and 16 in extreme mode, which I think is pretty good. seeing as the higher levels in extreme really are extreme

PC gamer had an article about free minigames this month, and PCG found this little gem.
torus trooper

God, its so fun. think tempest on huge amounts of speed.

Normal dificulty is fun, but on hard and extreme the speed gets higher and the enemies shoot more. extreme pretty much releses all speed limitations completely and requires some skill to play.

which is why I must gloat
This
is a replay file for the game, its a little 4kb thing that you drop into the replay folder. that way on the tile screen you can see just how well I did on extreme. because, yes, that was the accuall gameplay speed, and that was levels 9-11 if I remember right. but that replay will be overwritten with whatever your last game was, so go play yourself.

post yourown replays so we can all see how well you did.

and if I havn't said/implied it enought already, THIS IS AN AWESOME GAME!

I think something better then an overload would be in order, something along the lines of remote controling the mech's weapons from a console next to it or something. or have the player be able to get into the cockpit and pire from their.

becuase then the thing would dish out pain but still be defeseless from behind

tex perp problems are solved easily by alt-p finding them, then aligning the faces to world. there caused when you rotate an object so the face's Z cordinate is flat with the face. thats just a messed up normal and aligning it to world fix's it instantly.

and by your post above you mean your getting bad extents on all you maps?

nope, just learn to use them.

say if you wanted to stay active for 5 seconds, then turn off, then turn back on 25 seconds later you would have life set at 5 and strike again set at 25. no need for MM's at all, you just need to know how long the stuff takes

make your hallway, copy it, rotate it, overlap it at the corner, then use clip.

when clipping you should cut at a 45 angle so its red pointing to the other hallway, then repeat for the other side.

But what about Cell factor. That game is pretty much based on pumbling your opponents with crap. Is it possible they attached a simple hit box on each object to simplify it's interaction, but only physically it could be detailed with the collisions. Perhaps that's the unseen element that solves the debris not hurting you problem as m_garg said.
you mean where the gpu does all the calcs for the visuall debris, while the cpu simple see's if the targets hit?

well that would be redundant. big waste of power if both the gpu and cpu since they would both have to run a calculation. The design of all possible GPU baseds phyics calcs prevent them from giving any data back to the the rest of the machine, so anything it does will just go strait to the screen.

Rimrook, if we went with that quoted idea there we wouldn't have any good ragdoll effects. you wouldn't have proper colision detection an all.

its not limitless physics on a gpu. the only way they can do it is so it has no effect on the game world.

the way the hardwares designed its a one way road. GPU physics calc's are just visual calculations of what moving things would do. maybe all fine and dandy for ragdolls that can't do zip, but for large debris and shapnel thats supposed to hurt you, nothing.

in PhysX is here Post #180615
yes. thats the goal of the phyX card.
An onboard (combined with gfx card) solution is much more likely to work than a seperate card imo.
very bad idea. gfx solution = visual display only. its limited to just displaying on screen what happens, and at the cost of gpu bandwidth at that. its a one way road. seprate card means that it feeds the data to the GPU and CPU, meaning that that crumbling building will accually kill you if it lands on you.

US price is $300, quite a bit less then you brits.

Thats a prize? what a messed up place snarkpit is.

Orpheus, about all your misunderstandings, I have thought about it, and have come to the conclussion that its just because your used to snarkpit.

here at TWHL, we catter to noobs. We have some real talent in mapping, but this site was made for people entering the field. that means alot of people with language disfunctions end up here. snarkpit has alot less of that because of the competence that site averages. Snarkpit is alot stricter. alot. TWHL is layed back, we have some of the kindest, lax-ist mods I have ever seen on any site. and yet this site has no trouble.

let me give you an example.
* Discussion of illegally pirated software and warez of any sort on the forum is terms for immediate suspension of your account. Piracy does not belong in this forum, nor do we condone such activities.
The MODS said that that isn't really a rule. I remember Ant or 7th talking about how its really just to prevent people from signing up to ask for a free copy of HL2.

And yet we have no problems. people like you come from snarkpit, err...whiped. Here if anything is misunderstood its mentioned and forgoten.

You guys also come here, normally, with someone of a condecending tone. which you really don't have but its something that leads to 'misunderstandings'. maybe one misunderstanding that you've had from the start is that the majority of the people on this site are just moderate mappers. thats accually an overstatement according to our mapvault. but how many names do you see on the maps there. only a couple of the regulars, current and old, have maps there. take Hugh, look at that screen, he's a talented Half-life mapper. he just has no maps in the vault. neither do I.

I have yet to find anybody to eclipse my Half-life one entity work. Im confindent there is quite a few people out there on the VERC, snarkpit, interlopers, anywhere really, that are better then me but just don't post any of that talent for the world to see their skill.

So um... I guess I mean to say not to take this site at face value and chill out.

not to sound superior or anything.

Well, I guess you've now had an official TWHL hazing or something.

Anyway, im going to go continue work on the greatest boss battle you will ever see in the half-life engine for re-issues

doesn't matter. it will only work if the names the same anyway. muzzles going to copy the code for a weapon and tell it the new model name. it will then work like the copied weapon with the new model. hence it willo only work with the same names.

not as bad as inner city schools by any means, but there is still a bit of disturbing conduct. alot of which comes from the medias portrayel of inner city schools. especially those in california. eg from those teen sitcom thingies that I never watch but get the general message of. (someone name one for me)

alot what they show is how everybody is cool. and I accually mean HOW they are cool. so if the people in the show do it, regular people imitate.
