A good example. Compare that with the bridge in HL?. That doesn't kill peoples' machines. Anthony's map, ported to Source, would almost certainly run far far better.

It's a whole new engine, coded from scratch. HL1 is based on Quake. It's not just about polygons, there're millions of instructions zimming along in the background, written to differing levels of quality and using different features instated since the Quake days.

I wholeheartedly agree with Kasperg's sentiments in their entirety.

If you want to make maps with 1700 world polygons, that's okay ? if you're not planning on actually distributing it.

I certainly don't agree with Rabid on the run-at-start thing, I must say ? unless you do nothing but map on the PC, it's a waste of resources. Call me neurotically techno-tidy :).

Some things are much better, like the automatic setup shizzle. Far fewer "wtf i cant srot this hammer out gayhax zomg help!!1plz" posts.

Wow, that really looks impressive. It needs to be in black and white for the proper effect, though, instead of that crazy brown, and I think the walkway looks a bit narrow. Superb work though.

Yeah, all that matters is their radii crossing over. If they don't intersect, there're fewer light styles on a face :).
