Yes Pentium 3 does own alot, the latest Pentium-M's are based on the later Pentium 3 core, Tualatin, which has an 8-stage pipeline (VERY VERY SHORT, and fast).
GeForce 5 series sucks, really, it does. All sorts of shader-related issues.

This thread is really dumb. Of course more RAM helps, but the GPU is almost important. For example, there's a huuuuge difference between a 256MB 9600XT and a 256MB X850XTPE. A HUUUUUUUGE difference. But, in general, 256MB is better.

Luke, that's just BS. PCI-E 16x is much faster than AGP 8x, but it depends on the card too. PCI-E sucks because at the moment, the latest generation of cards only just use the bandwidth AGP 4x has to offer, and there's maybe a 3fps difference between using AGP 8x and 4x. And no, Crossfire isn't very good. Crossfire is too buggy. It actually loses you considerable fps over a single-card in certain games, and one or two games were unplayable with artifacts. SLi is far superior to Crossfire, since it's software independant (further than the driver).

Daubster, GFX RAM doesn't make a different over 256MB at the moment. And never judge a GFX card by it's RAM capacity. a X800XTPE with 256MB of RAM is far superior to a 9800XT with 256MB of RAM.
Depends what resolution. Even a 9800xt + 3.4GHz P4 + 1GB of RAM should be able to play HL2 with everything at max (bar AA and AF, and at 1024x768.) with 2xAA and 4xAF.
You should NEVER judge a CPU by it's clockspeed. A decent Pentium 4 should be at least 3.4GHz. A decent A64 should be at least 2.4GHz, and a decent Pentium-M should be at least 1.8GHz (preferably overclock it to 2.7, not difficult unless you lack basic computer skills :x).

Frag, which Ibanez did you try? Ibanez stock pickups are worthless, unless you buy a J-Custom or USRG. Their guitars are works of art, though. Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, and Frank Gambale can't be wrong! Rickenbacker are HORRIBLE. Ibanez necks are so smooth, ever played an '89 Japanese Ibanez Wizard neck? They are orgasmic. For pickups, the Ibanez tradition is to swap them out with DiMarzio ToneZone in bridge and DiMarzio Air Norton in neck. Unless you are buying 2nd hand, you gotta pay at least ?450 to get a decent Ibanez. That will buy you an RG1570, which is a pretty fine guitar, but REAL Ibanez guitars (J-Custom) will cost you over ?1k. But those are the finest guitars in production from Ibanez (unless you wanna buy an old USRG).

I tried GHS once out of curiosity on my Jackson and they were TERRIBLE. Sounded dull as shit. Then I slapped on my D'Addario's, and it sounded nice and dark again.
Crossfire is terrible, it artifacts in a few games, and loses many FPS in others. In only a few games is it beneficial.

I am an AGP user so no I won't buy one. PCI-E sucks. My AGP sample was buggy as hell though.

Frag, of course they are CRT's. There was two clues in my post, first, CRT response rate is measured in hertz, not ms, and finally Triniton is a brand of CRT tube.
Worst I've owned is probably an old PDP from many many years ago. It wasn't fully functional, but it still powered on and did basic things. Think, a giant calculator.
My dual 24" widescreen Sony Triniton's will do 1600x1200 @ 160hz no problem.

OpenGL @ 1600x1200 @ 32-bit is the only proper way to play HL.

1280x960 is miniscule for me and my dual Sony Triniton's. 1600x1200 on each @ 160hz.
