Thanks!

I've already finished the small model of the ship.

I'll be copying star-wars method by having the camera move toward the ship instead of the ship moving... This way my lights and effects will.. well.. have the same effect.

Somehow... all my wads are gone...

How do I get back the Half-Life wad, Liquids, Decals, Xeno... I need those...

Im not really sure how they all disapeared, but I opened my map, and all the textures were white. I looked around for the .wads. couldn't find em.

I pretty much have a lot more time on my hands now that im rich and unemployed (kidding), so I decided to make a mod using everything I know about HL1 mapping. Although my overall mapping skills lack the quality of most of the members here, I do understand how to create a great game.

Heres the storyline:

Out in the uncharted regions of Xen, a small transport vessel maps the many floating platforms. Gordon Freeman is mysteriously picked up by the ship, as he is found on a random floating terrains of Xen.

The ship finds some abandoned land mass, as is custimary in the bizzare Xen region. This one, on the other hand, is much larger than any of the other ones they have ever seen! As the ship coasts the surface, searching for any sign of life, the Xen barbarians spring a sneak attack on the ship.

The xen platform literally catches the ship in a trap by shooting a long pole throught the middle. As it stays, stuck in mid-air, the aliens board the craft and kill anyone they find.

Now, Gordon must escape the xen forces and get back to the Alise, the mothership of the human fleet in the area. He must warn them of the large xen forces that prepare to attack. This would be the first attack by the xen monsters since the origional catastrophe of Black Mesa Research Facility.

The humans did not believe that the aliens could communicate and strike efficently. Now, their mass eratication of the species might be put to an end, but only if Gordon doesn't get back in time.

you use photoshop?
nope... I used Adobe Illustrator 10.0.. fairly expensive program, but worth it if you want to be a graphic artist.

I pretty much took the old av which I made in a different program and messed with it in Adobe.

Use C++ and OpenGl if you want to make something okay. Yes, I know OpenGl is pretty old, but it gets the job done.

Music is not easy thing.

3 years of experience as a performer is hardly enough.

but, if you feel the calling... I'd be glad to help.

I work with a software called "Finale". Fairly expensive, but if you want to get serious with music, thats the program to use.

As I look at the "first impressions" thread... I wondered...

Whats the worst impression you have made on someone? (An impression of the first value)

My worst first impression would have to be when I introduced myself to one of the Senators in Washington (I'm not telling who... Lets just say If you're American, you know him.)

Apparently, at the time, There was a group of ex-Gay and ex-Lesbian protesters trying to speak to him. When I came up from and spoke with him, he somehow believed I was the ringleader of the protesters. He shook my hand and said
"Its nice to meet someone like you. I won't forget about your minority".

I was struck by this, and replied

"no, no, Im not gay..."

and he replied

"Exactly, and thats what makes you unique".

Once again, trying to explain to this man,

"Mr. Senetor, Im not with these people."

He immediatly stopped shaking my hand, and I never spoke to him again.

Well, whats your worst first impression?

This probably could have some good practicle uses. You know, like a puzzel where you have to get the ladder into a certain area by pushing blocks around. Besides, It adds more realism to the map (and yes, If you shoot for realism, its more praticle to map for HL2)

Okay, here is Bratty's Plan of attack...

Make the entire area where the ladder has the possibility to work one large ladder.

Next, create a train... This should be invisible (An invisible train... yees....) Have it cover the entire area of the ladder, with one small spot where the player can climb the ladder.

Make a corresponding train (the ladder for looks. This will move) and put it in the small area. Make sure that this one is not covering the ladder.

With the proper tweaking, this should work, but it would be hard to perfect.

Ill see if I can make an example map to show you what I mean. No promises, Im very Busy...

lol, How long do you think I've been gone ;)

Yeah, New Orleans was pretty bad. I wasn't there when the hurricane hit, I only went South in order to help with the relief. I traveled with a group that was bring supplies down (No, not all the way from Chicago). The only danger was looters and such. I never actually was in New Orleans anyway though.

Hmm...

Alex - Apparently believes that he is from a long line of "Primitive Primates", and openly refers to himself as a "monkey". His philosophical views counter that of... well... me... and his surpizing mapping skills have countered... well.. me.

Ant - of course, this aussie, has an oddly familiar hairstyle. He acts the same as Alex, which leads me next to believe that he is also of this "primitive Primate" race.

Zombie Loffe - Don't get me wrong... Swedes Rock... but this one is a few fries short of a happy meal... A few peas short of a caseroll... The Wheel's turning, but the hampsters dead... The elevator doesn't reach the top floor... If he had another brain, it would be lonely...

And now I'll see if he can take an obviously bad joke...

Mister Chow - Luke resembles your average "Shmoe". Still, the poor boy lives right across a lake, and I've never seen him, nor heard of him accomplishing anything significant.

Also refers to himself as a monkey... which only further links him to my theory.

Rabid Monkey - Yet another monkey...

Habboi - Let me put it this way:

"Too bad common sense isn't"

I have a few words of advice...

Obviously, you need to work on your texturing. Most of the texturing work that you have done seems pretty generic, not to mention the "office complex" lookalike stuff... Plus, you need to better control the texture application tool. It can become quite useful if you use it right.

Your brushwork is okay... but not amazing. The brushwork is where you can make someone awe at your map... not the monsters.

Gargantuas? They get boring after a while, but if thats what you like...
